The student body is nearly 20 percent Jewish at the University of Miami, which offers a variety of ways to participate in Jewish life. For students from Latin-American backgrounds, there is Hola Hillel, a Hillel sub-group. UM dorms offer “Shabbat locks” for observant Jewish students, and there is both a minor and major offered in Jewish Studies, as well as a specialty Jewish education studies program. The school also has an associated Chabad, which offers weekly Shabbat dinners, as well as a chapter of AEPi. Add in minimal anti-Israel activity, and UM is an attractive choice for Jewish students.
