For the last few years, this top-ranking liberal arts college has seen a constant stream of antisemitic and anti-Israel activity, prompting the publication of op-eds in Jewish and national newspapers asking, in one instance, "What is going on at Vassar?" This year, the college hosted a controversial lecture by anti-Israel Rutgers professor Jasbir Puar, "How Palestine Matters," which was condemned as containing outright blood libels. Yet numerous Vassar faculty members came to Puar's defense, and some have signed their names to petitions demonizing the Jewish state. Though a student government BDS resolution was defeated in April 2016, nearly half of the votes cast were in favor of the measure, and the coalition of student groups pushing for anti-Israel action -- including chapters of Students for Justice in Palestine and Jewish Voice for Peace -- continue their efforts. Vassar is host to a high percentage of faculty members who support the boycott of Israel, contributing, among other factors, to its second place ranking. (Photo credit: Wikipedia.)
