One of the UK's top media lawyers, Mark Lewis made the headlines again in 2018 when he announced in a BBC interview that he and his wife, Mandy Blumenthal, would move to Israel by the end of the year in reaction to the growing antisemitism in his native country. "[Labour Party leader] Jeremy Corbyn moved the rock, and the antisemites crawled out from underneath the rock," Lewis said of the couple's decision. "Fifteen years ago, somebody painted a swastika on my garage door in Manchester, that was a message. Now with the effect of social media, it’s almost every day.” Professionally, Lewis is known for having pioneered the “phone-hacking” claims against leading British media outlets that resulted in the closure of the News of the World tabloid.
