Following Israel's elections of Dec. 2022, former Israeli Ambassador to the US Ron Dermer was named as strategic affairs minister in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition government. Among his tasks, Dermer is the main liaison between the Israeli government and the US administration, and he is also responsible for bringing Saudi Arabia into the Abraham Accords, the 2020 agreement that normalized relations between Israel and several Arab states. "Let's not underestimate the impact that an Israeli-Saudi peace agreement could have on the region and the world," Dermer asserted in an interview with PBS in August. "I think, if you get a Saudi-Israeli peace, you're going to have several other Arab countries and Muslim countries that are going to follow. And I think it's the ultimate game-changer."
