Suella Braverman

Member of British Parliament

Former British Home Secretary Suella Braverman has represented the Fareham and Waterlooville constituency in the parliament of the United Kingdom since 2015. A lawyer by profession, Braverman served as Attorney-General for England and Wales prior to being appointed to the Home Office under the previous Conservative government. A stalwart friend of Israel, she visited the Jewish state in March and April 2024 in what she described as a "solidarity visit following the Oct. 7 attacks." Amid the debate among British politicians over weapons supplies to Israel as it fights a war of survival in multiple fronts, Braverman has remained firm. "I remain concerned about security in Israel and our friendship with Israel does not prohibit our criticism of some Israeli policies, nor our recognition of Israel as a thriving democracy," she wrote. "The UK supports Israel's right to defend itself and will work alongside anyone in the Middle East who seeks to establish better stability and security for their people." In March 2024, Braverman apologized to British Jews for having to endure weekly pro-Hamas marches in London and other cities which have featured antisemitic rhetoric and outbreaks of violence. Criticizing the passive approach of the police, Braverman stated: "You can't just pick a side, that's where the police have gone wrong. Far better to actually confront and arrest people exhibiting criminal behavior."
