U.S. President Barack Obama “will stand strong as a lion in order to ensure his country’s security and Israel’s well-being,” Israeli President Shimon Peres said at an event marking the 4th of July at U.S. Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro’s Herzliya home.
IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz was also in attendance. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who could not be there, congratulated the U.S. on Independence Day through a video message.
“July 4th is a time to not take freedom for granted,” Netanyahu said. “It’s a time to be thankful that history granted America the power to match its ideals with action.”
