Fox’s hit comedy series “New Girl” has just gotten the Jewish treatment. A new viral sketch clip courtesy of comedy video website “Funny or Die”, which includes SNL alum Will Ferrell as one of its founders, has surfaced online as a Yiddishkeit spin on the show.
The digital short “The Jew Girl” features an actress playing a Jewish Zooey Deschanel doppelganger, with all the Jewish folklore cliches blended with Deschanel’s character’s signature quirkiness. The hilarious scenario places a Jewish-American princess moving in with 3 “Goyim”, who belts out an “Oy Vey” once realizing her roommates know nothing about the Shabbos.
Currently in its sophomore season, 5 time Emmy nominated “New Girl” already has a strong affiliation with Judaism, with Emmy nominated Jewish-American actor Max Greenfield playing the favorable “Schmidty”, who is a proud Jew on the show as well. On tonight’s episode for instance, Schmidt declares he’ll keep growing forever like a “Jewish Peter Pan”.
