For the first time since the First Gulf War, air raid sirens have sounded throughout Tel Aviv. Sirens also went off in nearby Bat Yam and Bnei Brak. Explosions were heard according to multiple sources, including Reuters, which tweeted “Air raid sirens sound in Tel Aviv, explosions heard – witnesses.” Haaretz is reporting that a rocket landed in Holon, which lies just south of the Mediterranean coast city. The IDF reports that the missile landed in the sea off the coast of Tel Aviv.

According to Haaretz correspondent Barak Ravid’s Twitter page the cellular network in Tel Aviv was experiencing technical issues.

According to Reuters, Islamic Jihad has taken responsibility for the missiles.

The official Twitter page for the IDF tweeted this statement: “A few minutes ago, sirens in Tel Aviv sent residents running for shelter. We can confirm that no rockets struck in the area.”
