The Zionist Organization of America this week criticized the Obama administration for its readiness to follow through on a foreign aid package to Egypt that will supply the country with 16 F-16 fighter jets and 200 Abrams tanks before the end of the year. The organization said it was specifically concerned as to who Egypt intended to use the weapons against.
The deal, signed while Hosni Mubarak was still president of Egypt, has come under increased scrutiny because of the recent surfacing of videos in which Egypt’s current president Mohamed Morsi makes vicious anti-Semitic comments, stating that Jews are the descendants of “apes and pigs” and that “we must not forget to nurse our children and grandchildren on hatred towards those Zionists and Jews, and all those who support them,” among other controversial remarks.
Morton Klein, President of the ZOA, spoke to the Algemeiner, and expressed his concerns about the deal.
“We now have videos of Morsi openly promoting hatred against Jews and Israel, so these powerful weapons in the hands of a vicious Israel-hater and Jew-hater is very frightening, because we ask ourselves, ‘who is he going to use these weapons against, is it going to be Iran or Syria? No, it’s going to be Israel.'”
Klein added, “He and his people have said even recently that they don’t know if they’re going to keep this agreement between Egypt and Israel, the so-called peace agreement.”
Klein also voiced his concern that the Jewish community was mostly silent on the issue. “To have these weapons in the hands of someone who has this unbridled hatred towards Jews and Israel is something that every Jew should be screaming out against.”
“I mean we fought (against) Saudi Arabia getting the AWACS why are we not fighting an even more vicious anti-Semite Morsi getting F-16 fighter jets and Abrams tanks,” Klein added.
