A leading Jewish philanthropist, Schusterman has initiated a global network of philanthropic endeavors whose focus is on encouraging young people to create change for themselves, both in the Jewish community and across the broader world. In 2012 the Schusterman Institute, which she founded with her late husband Charles, helped fund the launch of the Israel Institute, which focuses on offering and helping scholars. She currently holds a variety of leadership positions in Jewish organizations such as BBYO, Hillel, Repair the World and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. She is also a founding member of the Birthright Israel Foundation and a leading philanthropist in the Birthright Israel program
