Israel’s national soccer team handily defeated Honduras in a friendly match at New York’s Citi Field Sunday.

Hen Ezra was Israel’s rainmaker, scoring in the 52nd minute and assisting Shimon Abihazira’s goal in the 76th.

“Ezra beat two defenders and lifted a shot over goalkeeper Noel Valladares. Abihazira took Ezra’s pass and chipped Valladares,” the Associated Press reported.

The Israeli national soccer team’s appearance in New York was their first in more than 35 years according to Haaretz.

Israel supporters responded enthusiastically to their team’s success. “Spontaneous dancing after Israel wins match against Honduras,” tweeted the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York.

“It was awesome seeing the entire spectrum of the New York Jewish and Israeli expat world support Israel in a once in a generation face off,” Attorney Jacob Nemon, a fan who was in attendance told The Algemeiner, “You don’t have to be a huge sports fan to feel the magnitude of the moment.”

“I hope I won’t have to wait until I have grandkids before I can come see team Israel on our shores again,” Nemon added.
