An attempted stabbing attack by a Palestinian terrorist at the Damascus Gate of the Old City of Jerusalem ended quickly this afternoon (Wednesday), with the perpetrator quickly killed, and no other people injured.
According to initial reports, the terrorist was dressed in a green shirt, the color of IDF uniforms, and camouflage military pants – apparently to enable him to blend into the surrounding scenery, filled with Israeli security personnel stationed at the entrances to east Jerusalem.
The event occurred in the backdrop of the implementation of new security measures, announced by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday, following an emergency meeting of the security cabinet.
These measures include checkpoints at the entrance to east Jerusalem and reinforcing the short-staffed police force with IDF soldiers.
This event, which began with the terrorist trying to stab Jewish tourists, accompanied by a guide and security guards, was the latest in a long list of knife and other attacks that have characterized the surge in Palestinian terror since the Rosh Hashanah holiday last month.
