Damage to Polish Camp as Fire Destroys Barracks, Shoe Display
Part of the Majdanek concentration camp in Poland has been destroyed by a fire, with barracks and a display of inmates’ shoes falling victim. Fightfighers reportedly spent six hours putting out the fire, which is thought to have been caused by an electrical fault. The fire at the site in south-eastern Poland started late last Monday night. Earlier in the year the Auschwitz death camp site was severely damaged by floods.
