Suspicious Letters Sent to D.C. schools

Washington Times – Letters containing a white powdery substance were delivered to approximately 25 D.C. schools Thursday, prompting worry from parents and administrators and several evacuations of rooms where the letters were found, public safety officials said.

The letters appeared to be a hoax. Initial tests of the substance did not identify any toxic materials, said Pete Piringer, spokesman for D.C. Fireand Emergency Medical Services. No one has become sick or injured after contact with the letters, said Katherine Schweit, an spokeswoman for the FBI’s Washington field office.

“No students were ever in danger,” Mr. Piringer said.
