Thousands of Borough Park residents are searching for 9-year-old Leibby Kletzky, who failed to meet his mother after attending a Chassidic day camp Monday, and was last seen 20 hours ago.
Shomrim Safety Patrol have set up a command center, and are working with local police investigators in following every lead. A reward of $50,000 has been offered to anyone with information leading to the boy’s whereabouts.
Leibby is described as 4 feet, 4 inches tall with dark hair, wearing black glasses, a striped shirt, and was carrying a knapsack.
Thousands of volunteers from across the Jewish community searched the streets of Borough Park throughout the night, but have come up empty-handed.
Anyone with any information is encouraged to call police at 718-851-5641, Shomrim at 718-871-6666 or the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1800-577-TIPS.
UPDATE 4:00pm – After more anonymous donations from the Jewish community, the reward for information leading to Leibby’s whereabouts is now at $110,000. The Shomrim volunteers have also opened an additional command center to accommodate the thousands of volunteers, on 61st Street, between 15th and 16th Avenues, and are asking everyone to help in the search effort.
UPDATE 6:15pm – After twenty four hours there seems to be a small break in this fast developing story. NYPD Detectives are now in possession of CCTV footage showing Leibby Kletzky walking on 44th Street in the vicinity of 15th Avenue after 5:00pm on Monday evening, and are now reviewing footage from other cameras in the area for more clues. This is the first positive identification of Leibby since he was last seen at Boyan Day Camp.
