IDF forces intercepted an arms smuggling shipment that included 10 Kalashnikov machine guns and 10 magazines. The weapons and ammunition where on board a small motor boat manned by two Palestinian Arabs crossing the Dead Sea from Jordan. Police arrested the two men in their 40’s, saying that this was a culmination of week long operation.

Dead Sea patrols are limited, and few boats cross on a regular basis, although it has been know to police as a route for drug smuggling, weapons have rarely been intercepted there. “This is a unique and rare interception,” police said. “We are still looking into the weapons’ destination.” According to police, Kalashnikov rifles can fetch as much as $ 7,500 on the black market.
