Turkey Selects Jewish Musician For Huge Eurovision Contest
by Zachary Lichaa
Can Bonomo, a Turkish born Jewish musician is a rising star in Turkey’s music scene. He can now add being selected to represent his country in one of Europe’s largest musical contests – Eurovision Songfest – to his resume.
“This has been a huge surprise for me,” Bonomo recently told a Turkish radio station, according to Turksish newspaper Zaman.
This will be the 57th year of Eurovision’s contest, and Bonomo says his country’s decision to choose him will give inspiration to other young musicians in Turkey to try and make it in the arts. As for what language he’ll perform in, the 24 year old hasn’t decided.
Zaman quotes Bonomo from Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), “I have a number of ideas [for the song], some of them are in Turkish and some are in English. We’ll select the one that suits me the most,” he added. Nevertheless, Bonomo noted, the song will be one “themed around the concepts of friendship, peace and happiness.”
