The Farkash Gallery has joined the Jewish National Fund, in conjunction with the Consulate of Israel to mount an exhibition of posters and photographs depicting sixty four years of advertising and cultural history told in colorful posters and dramatic black and white photographs. “Made in Israel 2012” will be on display at the Jewish National Fund headquarters in Manhattan.  Posters advertising products, cultural concepts, holidays, and politics cover the walls of the JNF House.

Israel’s history is portrayed through the use of popular images, with special focus on children. In his greetings to opening evening viewers, Consul General Aharoni spoke about the special place of children, youth and hope in the consciousness of Israeli society. The images on many of the posters mirror his analysis.

From “ordinary” advertising posters showing everyday products with their newly designed Hebrew labels, to advertisements for tourism and travel abroad, the posters provide colorful mementos of past history. Black and white photos from the early years of the Jewish State, show the pioneer and immigrant beginnings of the modern state of today.

Vibrant images of soldiers and sailors, of young Israelis at work and at play, of celebrations, tell the story of the State in two dimensions. The works are colorful and charming, simple and straightforward, able to convey unifying information and concepts to a diverse, multi lingual population.

The display will be mounted at the JNF house through April 28, and is sponsored by the Farkash Gallery in Old Jaffa (Tel Aviv).  The Farkash Gallery, one of Israel’s oldest art resources, was founded in 1948

The immigrant experience, photographed in black and white, presents a special insight into life in the early years of the Jewish State. The sadness of a young immigrant, head-in-hands, on a refugee camp bench juxtaposed with the image of a robust young moshavnik carrying a full bouquet of carnations exemplifies the rapid change in life in Israel.

Made in Israel 2012 is open through the end of April. The posters are for sale through the Farkash Gallery.  For additional information, call JNF at 888 JNF-0099.
