After the Board of Rabbis of Greater Philadelphia forwarded an email to its members publicizing an April 17 meeting it held with J Street director Jeremy Ben-Ami, Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia CEO Ira M. Schwartz responded to the objections of federation donors by distancing the federation from J Street.
“Federation does not support or endorse any program funded or run by J Street, nor do we endorse or support J Street’s mission or policies,” Schwartz wrote in a widely distributed community email, according to Philadelphia’s Jewish Exponent newspaper.
Schwartz, whose federation provides logistical support to the local board of rabbis, called the J Street email “an unfortunate incident,” adding that the federation “communicated our position and disapproval to the Board of Rabbis.”
