While most Israeli artists are busy with local Hanukkah events back in the holy land as part of the holiday festivities this weekend, two of Israel’s most popular rockers have embarked on a mini US tour, starting Saturday in Los Angeles.

Prolific musician Dan Toren, who rose to fame in Israel during the mid 80’s as a TV and movie actor, has emerged as a versatile singer songwriter with about 10 acclaimed solo albums under his belt. In recent years he has ventured into producing and composing, while also publishing material online through his official website. In 2010 he received an honorary songwriting award from Israel’s Recording Industry Association ACUM, and he continues to create music and teach at Bezalel Academy of Arts & Design and Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music. Throughout his hectic career Toren was also a member in several musical groups, such as The Flies, Shunra and Balagan.

Headlining with Toren is longtime collaborator and one of Israel’s celebrated female artists, Dana Berger. The duo first met when they were members of Balagan. Berger became one of the 90’s rock scene’s breakout stars, making a name for herself as an accomplished singer songwriter as well as an actress. Her 2000 third album “Ad Ha’Katze (Till The Edge)” went platinum and earned her the title of Best Female Singer that year, thus becoming a favorite household name in Israel with 6 overall albums and prominence in the Israeli music landscape.

Berger & Toren bring their majestic on stage chemistry with their intimate acoustic mini tour. Their show will include songs from their respective solo careers plus their joint past repertoire. Following Saturday’s show in LA they will head up north for gigs in the San Francisco Bay area and Seattle, culminating next weekend with a show at New York City’s Webster Hall.
