One of the top youth tennis tournaments crowned its champions Sunday, and in the twelve year-old age group Yshai Oliel of Ramla, Israel came out on top. Oliel defeated Patrick Sydow 3:6, 1:6 of Aruba at the 51st annual Dunlop Junior Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship, joining a distinguished list of winners that includes Andy Murray and Jimmy Connors.
After his victory Oliel said, “I am very happy and very excited. I have not digested the achievement. For me this is just the beginning.”
His coach Jan Pochter told the media “I am very happy about the accomplishment, Yshai accomplished a great achievement and I am proud of him. It has been a long process. We started 8 years ago and I’m glad that everything is reflected here. We are very excited and hope to have many more achievements.”
Prime Minister Netanyahu called the young star following his victory, and told him “You are a true champion. You brought honor to the State of Israel and pride to your parents.”
