Palestinian media reported Wednesday that the Israeli Air Force  had to chase an Egyptian passenger jet from Gaza airspace recently. According to the report, the Egyptian aircraft was flying tourists over the Sinai and accidentally crossed the border into Gaza. An IDF helicopter and F-16  were sent to direct the plane to turn back toward Egypt.

Israel remains vigilant with its skies and those of Gaza. In October an unmanned drone was shot down over the northern Negev desert. Hezbollah later took credit for it, saying that the drone had originated from Iran and the Hezbollah sent drones over Israel “whenever we want.”

“We view this incident of attempting to enter Israeli airspace very severely and we will consider our response later,” Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said in a statement at the time.
