ADL Slams Muslim Group for “Malicious and False” Ads in NY Train Stations

AMP Israel apartheid ad. Photo: Facebook.

The Anti-Defamation League issued a statement Thursday slamming an American Muslim group for posting billboards in New York train stations that accuse Israel of apartheid.

“We are deeply disturbed that American Muslims for Palestine is undertaking a billboard campaign that falsely accuses Israel of ‘apartheid.’ Their ad campaign ignores the complicated nature of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and is part of the campaign to delegitimize and demonize the Jewish state,” the statement read in part.

The AMP billboard, which has been posted in 25 Metro-North Stations, reads: “Americans give Israel $3 billion per year! End Apartheid now!” and includes a quote from South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu, a prominent critic of Israel. The posters were put up on Monday, shortly before Passover commenced, a fact the ADL also knocked. “It shows a profound lack of sensitivity that they chose the first day of the Jewish holiday of Passover to announce this malicious and false ad campaign.”

Meanwhile, a group known for its public criticism of Islamism has launched its own offensive. The American Freedom Defense Initiative, which caused a furor when it posted billboards last year in New York City subway stations that referred to Jihadists as “savages,” has created new billboards that feature disturbing images under the headline: “This is Islamic apartheid.”

US Jewish Groups Praise Tillerson’s Renewal of State Department Antisemitism Envoy

US Jewish groups reacted with praise and relief on Tuesday to the news that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is...

One of the images shows two blindfolded men having nooses placed over their heads. Below the image, it reads, “Gay under Islamic law (Sharia).”

Another picture shows a woman dressed in a white burqa getting whipped, above the words: “Under Islamic law rape victims are tortured or killed unless they agree to marry their rapist.”

Pamela Geller, head of the AFDI, told the New York Post she wants the ads in the same stations as the AMP posters, but was unsure when they would go up.

  • . I recently bowed out of the interfaith Holocaust service, because it was a custom to include Hatikvah at the end, but now some Christian groups object as they support the Palestinians and the Muslim Imams would either sit or leave during the Hatikvah. Perhaps interfaith Holocaust programs no longer make sense, at least to me. I do not need the stress of seeing disrespect being afforded to Israel and nor do I wish to compromise by leaving Hatikvah out. The interfaith Holocaust memorials started as well intentioned way for the Jewish people and other groups to pause and reflect on man’s capacity to perpetuate unbelievable cruelty against his fellow and to commiserate as a group and others, with the Jews and hopefully prevent this nightmare from reoccurring. Over the years it was understandably modified to include other victims of genocidal mass killings, though these mass killings were not really analogous, as the Nazis were obsessed at not just killing Jews as a competing group, but Hitler desired to eliminate our creed and it’s pervasive influence on humanity, particularly Christian doxy. As a result of Muslim participation and twisted liberalism, this is morphing into a twisted canard where Israel is being blamed for perpetuating ethnic killings against the Palestinians as the Jews were slaughtered by the Nazis. One can understand the Islamo-Nazis belief system with a quote from the Talmud. We do not see things as they are. We see them as we are. RABBI DR. BERNHARD ROSENBERG, CHILD OF Holocaust survivors and a refugee born in a D.P. camp

    As it states,

    – The British Mandate government briefly banned its performance in 1919 due to Arab anti-Zionist political activity.

    – In 1944, Czech Jews spontaneously sang it at the entry to the Auschwitz-Birkenau gas chamber and, as reported by a member of the Sonderkommando, were beaten by SS guards.

The link is clear, the Arabs were against Hatikvah before there was Israel or even before the myth of Palestinian people. Furthermore, Jews sang it while being led to their death. How dare anyone allow individuals to leave in protest during Hatikvah with the canard they are commemorating the Holocaust but against the State of Israel. Just keep quoting Dr Martin Luther King, Jr “When people criticize Zionists, they mean Jews. You’re talking anti-Semitism.”

    • I WILL BE KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT CONGREGATION SONS OF ISRAEL IN MANALAPAN, MONDAY NIGHT APRIL 8 AT 7:30 and will not participate in the interfaith program. ALL ARE INVITED. I AM SPEAKING FREE OF CHARGE. The Imam said he would join with me declaring that here in America there is no room for Muslims callings Jews apes and for the destruction of the Jewish people as Morsi of Egypt did. This promise to me was never fulfilled. MY AGREEING FOR THE IMAM TO LEAVE BEFORE HATIKVAH WAS BASED ON HIS FULFILLING THIS PROMISE.

I have resigned from the Metuchen-Edison Area Interfaith Clergy Association due to this. For you who are new, to the association, I served as President and Vice President in the past and chaired many programs. It hurts me greatly that I had to make this decision. I wish you all the best of success. RABBI DR. BERNHARD ROSENBERG

Has the MAS criticized Major Hassan of the Fort Hood massacre, Times Square bomber, the assassin of Robert F. What is Norton Mezvinsky’s view of the fake anti-war and Islamist atrocities which have brought terror to the world?

    • jacob mandelblum

And how come the piece of…work of a Rotten Apple major
allowed this sign to go up at his town subway stations ?
If anybody should know the truth of the matter, it is he
And please, do not pull the wool over my eyes with the crap of freedom of expression as, if this is freedom of expression, then I’m the Pope….
Let him chalk it up the to his real reason:
His “political correctness” policy which made him see nothing wrong with a super mosque at ground zero…..
And where are the other N.Y Jewish organizations and how come the posters having been dealt with…?????

  • Gzlives

an ad giving the link to the vid clip showing the current Grand Mufti of Jerusalem telling his large audience the Jews are the descendents of pigs and apes and its the obligation of Muslims to kill them should be the response to show the mindless kkk style hatred these people in NY apparently support by their failure to ever speak to it

Has the ADL criticized Pamela Geller and/or the American Freedom Defense Initiative for its Islamophobia and defamation of Muslims and Islam?

What is Algemeiner’s view of the Islamophobia of Geller and the Freedom Defense Initiative?

    Norton Mezvinsky

    • What makes it Islamophobia?

      Are her ads truthful?

      Are the anti-Israel ads truthful?

Are you aware of the origins of Islamophobia?

    • Yeshayahu Hollander

“Islamophobia” is a deliberately mendacious term. A phobia is a mistaken fear of something which is not threatening. Fear of Islam is a fear that millions of incited people will respond to the incitement and attempt to convert or kill all people who do not believe in their view of their prophet, or – at least – turn us all into dhimmis, second rate citizens. The incitement is real and present. The success of the incitement is real and present in so many places. The fear is NOT a phobia. The fear is a recognition that someone is attacking you. This is a healthy reaction to a real threat. A more honest and descriptive term would be “A Self-Defense from Islamist threat reaction”, or “a Wake-Up Reaction” of the free world against the threatening Islamists.

      • Steve

So Islam is a threat, not only to the Jewish people but also to non Jewish people in the western countries such as myself.

I try to explain to whoever will listen, appeasement does not work, especially with people who do not want peace

    • Raymond in DC

As I recall, they have in the past. Which is unfortunate, because everything AFDI has put on their ads is true and easily confirmed by those not afraid to face the truth. Anti-semitism is rife in the Arab and Muslim worlds, yet by one accounting just 2% of ADL reports have dealt with it. (Lots of reports of “Christian” anti-Semitism, though.) As to “Islamophobia”, that’s a term made up by the Muslim Brotherhood to shut down criticism of Islam.

It’s pretty easy to debunk those anti-Israel “apartheid” posters. Aside from choosing a black Miss Israel, Israelis recently voted an Arab Christian winner of their singing competition, besting an Orthodox Jew. At the Technion the Christian daughter of a Lebanese refugee achieved valedictorian status, while in another department an Arab researcher leads a team developing an “electronic nose” to sniff out cancer. Jewish and Arab medical professionals serve side by side in Israeli hospitals. So where’s the apartheid?

    • alexa

I didn’t know that showing the truth is islamophobia. it would be if what she was showing were lies. can you show us the lies ?

    • jacob mandelblum

      Imbecile :
Show me one single WRONG criticism of Islam…
Where is the defamation of Muslims and islam ???
Are lies all that they follow blindly ???
Is a lie their treatment of women ???
Is a lie their concept of Jews and what must be done to them ???
Is their female circumcision practice a lie ???
Is their World Caliphate goal a lie..????
And finally, where in the hell is the APARTHEID they claim, parroting this piece of biased crap shameless Archbishop TUTU is ????
Why not asking the Israeli Arabs whether they would move even to Saudi Arabia or the Emirates ????
Years ago, Yoshiro Sagamori posted at the Jerusalem Post a statement which is GOD’s truth ”
“Every practicing Muslim is a terrorist.
It is what has been hammered into his brain from cradle to grave and it is what his “religion” expects from him”
And now go ahead and prove me wrong in any of my statements….!!!!

  • jansuzanne

Desmond Tutu is an anti-Semite and his goal is to continually discredit Israel always appearing as an accredited judge of apartheid. If Africans had been treated in South Africa as Arabs are treated in Israel there would never have been any outrageous cry of apartheid.

  • Lectori Salutem,

Instead of publishing oneliner-ads, which most likely contribute to feelings of hatred. The ADL would do good to
try to get in contact with those people and start talks with them in order to try to get clear, what can be done to understand one anothers vision. When we make clear, that we respect people even when they have visions we cannnot endorse, than there is a platform created to exchange visions in which we get understanding what caused the existence of their beliefs. And than we can try to come to being able to live in peace with one another.

Extremism is always the consequence of not being taken serious by the ones who have the instruments to settle their affairs. We must take into account the feelings of what they feel to be righteous. We must reckon with the
people who have not the privilege of being able to get their voice really taken into account by those who have most power to get their things realised in daily life.
As human beings we are responsible for those who are for their well-being dependent of those who really dispose of the tools to provide for the well being of the less privileged ones.
Tuition (=gathering knowledge about Mutual positions and ideas) is the basis for all understanding.

    • Robert Kesten

      Mr. Schutz,

It is true, at least an attempt at open dialogue, looking for shared values, is a good first step. There will always be areas of disagreement, but there is no hope without an extended hand. We don’t often have to negotiate with friends, but if we want a better world, we certainly have to talk with our enemies, or those perceived to be our enemies.

This is between groups of Americans…not Israelis and Palestinians. If Americans can’t reach out and try to work out our differences, how could we ever expect others to try?

    • jacob mandelblum

You forget unfortunately, that there are no worse blind than those who do not want to see and worse deaf than those who do not want to hear…
And since a rotten, servile and abject media sees fit to sweep under the rug anything that would open people’s eyes about what Islam and Muslims REALLY ARE, there are the results….

      • jacob mandelblum

If my comments are subject to moderation, rest assured I will not bother making any….

And coming to think about, if that’s the case, then please delete my email address from your mailing directory….

I’m too “POLITICALLY INCORRECT” for your taste….

    • Amnon

      Mr Schultz
a lot of good is the idea of negociating whit islamist ,watt hapened in Holand and all over EU the moment you tries to negociate the murders and burning of cristian churches after the publication of the Danish cartoons. If you think you can negociate whit fanatics good luck to you.

    • Daniel

Yeah nice idea but if they are lying and printing false facts then would you feel good at approaching them for debate….?

Discussion is good but telling the truth and keeping lies out is more important.

Education is not about selling lies and causing hatred because you disagree with one another, or is it?

    PART II

    Martin Kramer:
Gaza is a place with no Israeli settlements, from which Israel has totally withdrawn to the 1967 lines, and which nonetheless has become a Hamas terror state. That’s what happens in conditions of Gazafication. So when people say that in a two-state solution, Palestinians would have a “right of return” to the West Bank and not Israel, I do not find that particularly reassuring either. Any influx of Palestinians across the Jordan poses a problem for Israel, and it is naive to dismiss it. I would like to hear how, in a two-state scenario, Gazafication of the West Bank can be prevented. I haven’t heard it yet.

Read The Haj by Leon Uris. And ask these questions:

What year did the nation of Palestine come into existance?
What were its national borders and what year did it cease to exist?
What currency did the nation of Palestine use and why is there no history of it?
Name one leader to the “nation of Palestine” prior to Yasser Arafat.

And if somebody responds by asking about the Jews claim to Israel kindly refer them to my good buddies Cyrus the Great and Flavius Josephus. Or if they want to play that “Open Prison”, “Apartheid” or “Ethnic Cleansing” crap please refer to Myths and Facts by Mitchell G. Bard-Jewish Virtual Library mentioned above and David Horowit’z ass kicking “Why Israel is the Victim” article also mentioned above. Particularly in regards; Jerusalem for Jews/Mecca for Arabs. And of course we know why you’ve never heard this pass the lips of the BDS crowd; exterminating the Jews is more important than a fair solution to “The Jewish Problem”.

If Islam is the “religion of peace”, where in Sheikh Abdullah bin Humaid’s article on jihad can I find the equivalent of “Love Thy Neighbor” and “good will toward men”? And explain its prominence, and significance almost as an “Introduction”, in a book that’s considered second only to the Koran: My Summarized Sahih Al-Bukhari. Explain also why the first part of his article, “the call to jihad, fighting for Allah’s cause with the heart, the hand and the tongue” is not what Clausewitz would refer to as “total war” Also address “jihad” as it’s defined in Reliance of the Traveller and answer the same question. (Chapter O-9.0: Jihad O: Jihad means to war against non-Muslims, and is etymologically derived from the word mujahada signifying warfare to establish the religion.) Also compare Humaid’s “jihad” and Emmet Fox’ Sermon on the Mount and tell me which one best represents a spirit of Love and compassion.

(I truly believe Humaid’s article should be “Exhibit A” when it comes to refuting Islam as the “religion of peace”.)

This is from the book “the Wisdom of Forgiveness” by His Holiness the Dalai lama and Victor Chan. Pages 47 and 48:

“Whenever the Dalai lama talks about forgiveness, he likes to use as an example the story of Lopon-la, a Lhasa monk he knew before the Chinese occupation. ‘After I escaped from Tibet, Lopon-la put in prison by Chinese’, the Dalai Lama told me. ‘he stayed there eighteen years. When he finally free, he came to India. For twenty years, I did not see him. But he seemed the same. Of course looked older. But physically OK. His mind still sharp after so many years in prison. He was still same gentle monk. He told me the Chines forced him to denounce his religion. Thery tortured him many times in prison. I asked him whether he was ever afraid. Lopon-la then told me: ‘Yes, there was one thing I was afraid of. I was afraid I may lose compassion for the Chinese.'”

    I’d like to know, when I look at the pictures of the wild-eyed, frothing at the mouth fanatics in pictures and TV, where is that spirit of love and forgiveness when they’re shouting “alahu-akbar”? I can’t even find it in Taha’s Second Message of Islam. Here’s an exerpt of what I DO find;

“we may describe it, (jihad), as a surgeon’s lancet and not a butcher’s knife.” I’m sure there are about 200 million dead people that would disagree with him.

I’ve got a neat little “poster”; one side is a picture of a bunch of screaming, frothing at the mouth Arabs and on the panel beside that a picture of a Jew in a labcoat. The caption below says: “In 2007 Islam and Judaism’s holiest holidays overlapped for 10 days. Muslims racked up 397 dead bodies in 94 terror attacks across 10 countries during this time… ….while Jews worked on their 159th Nobel Prize.”

Go Pamela, you know how to fight fire– with fire, not with too-little-too-late ohmygosh reactions like the ADL’s.

BTW, isn’t it nice to read that in Burma, Buddhists, including monks, are on a rampage against Moslems and guess what, they burned down a mosque! Ain’t that sad? Perhaps the Buddhists were also thinking angrily of the famous Buddhist statues in Afghanistan destroyed by the religion of peace. In any case, it was nice to see the shoe on the other foot for a change and too see Moslems being chased, instead of the other way around. I realize this is a very un-p.c. observation, and I await the inevitable rebuke from some Jew who’s into Ghandi, Buber, maybe Heschel and J.C. as well; but so be it. Go Burmese Buddhists!

Actually they’ve been forced to defend themselves against the muslims slaughtering them all over the place. It’s either this or be annihilated. Very sad, when really all they want to be is left alone to live their way in peace. Too familiar…And I agree with you 100%!

I think that truth should be a factor in advertising and in media spin. But, since it’s never been necessary before, it stands to reason that it won’t be now. Which is why Pamela Geller, has been putting up her public service announcements for some time–much to the chagrin of the haters of truth.
