A bullring in the Pinto suburb, outside Madrid, Spain, was plastered with anti-Semitic graffiti, shocking 2,500 spectators who had bought tickets for a “running of the bulls” event in the town on Wednesday, Spanish daily El Pais reported on Thursday.
The spray painted message that ran across the wall of the arena on Wednesday read, “Adolf Hitler was right,” and was accompanied by his date of birth and death, 1889-1945, and a large red swastika. The bullfighting arena’s maintenance crew painted over the graffiti after that day’s event, which went on as scheduled.
Via Twitter, the town mayor, from the conservative Popular Party, condemned the incident and declared his “absolute rejection of the graffiti.”
Local residents protested the hate speech outside the local town hall on Wednesday evening, demanding that the perpetrators be brought to justice. There are as yet no suspects in the case Police said.
