JNS.org – Palestinian Authority (PA) Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah recently said that with the approval of President Mahmoud Abbas, the PA plans to grant 5,000 released prisoners who had spent more than five years in Israeli prisons with a “dignified life grant,” Palestinian Media Watch reported.
Most of the prisoners referred to by Hamdallah are convicted terrorists. Palestinian Media Watch reported that if approved, the grant would total $15 million this year. The announcement of the grant appeared in the official PA daily newspaper at the same time that the U.S. announced a contribution of $148 million to the PA.
Hamdallah on Sept. 6 said, “The [PA] government has not abandoned and will never abandon the brave prisoners who sacrificed years of their lives for the Palestinian cause and for our national goals,” according to Al-Hayat Al-Jadida.
