Hamas televised a cartoon touting the capabilities of its military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, on its official TV Station Al-Aqsa TV, according to monitoring group MEMRI.
The cartoon appears to prove that the terrorist organization’s propaganda tools remain intact despite reports that the ouster of Islamist rulers in Egypt and tensions over Syria with its Iranian patrons have weakened Hamas.
The television program projects an army full of “thousands of young fighters…prepared to be martyred for the sake of Allah” until Israel is destroyed.
“The Hamas of yesterday is not the Hamas of today, and the Hamas of tomorrow will be even stronger militarily,” a voice states over colorful images illustrating the rise of Hamas’s supposed military might.
Hamas used to have “stones slingshots, knives, and very few pistols, but today, the Al-Qassam Brigades possesses missiles, which undermine the Zionist security theory,” the monotone voice continues.
According to Middle East news website Al-Monitor, there may be some truth to this claim–at least the part about the missiles. After attending a Gaza military parade in September, a reporter for Al-Monitor said, “The parade showcased SAM-7 anti-aircraft missiles, which will change the rules of confrontation with Israel. It was the first time Hamas had displayed such a weapon.”
The same reporter wrote,”The Israelis believe that Hamas intends to procure Chinese-made C-704 anti-ship missiles with a range of 35 kilometers (22 miles) and radar-guiding systems, which would alter the military situation in Gaza and the military balance between the two sides, as Hamas would be able to target Israeli ships and gas installations.”
Of course, according to the video, the Al-Qassam Brigades contingent, “educated in the mosques and possessing the spirit of Jihad” aren’t going it alone: “Everybody – old and young – helps and supports them.”
