While I was an avid fan of the first season of hit TV show Homeland, it has seen a rapid decline since then. The second season was okay, and the third season was really not good. The world’s most wanted terrorist sneaking into “ŽIran? A mentally unstable law enforcement agent who leads manhunts single-handedly?
As great as Claire Danes’ acting is, the plot is thoroughly unbelievable – and at times unwatchable. That said, the show has won multiple Emmy and Golden Globes awards, and has certainly captivated the attention of TV audiences.
On the other hand, Gideon Raff, who created Homeland, also produced an Israeli television drama series “Žcalled Prisoners of War (Hatufim), which is much better than Homeland. It’s amazing TV which I find to be addictive. I started watching it on Hulu recently in Hebrew with English subtitles and while “Ž”Žit is very highly-rated in Israel, I am amazed at how few people in the U.S. watch it, given the obsession with Homeland.
Hatufim is by far the best television drama I have seen in many years.
The “Žshow is mesmerizing, amazing, scary, captivating – really an awesome program. Both Seasons 1 and 2 have well developed characters and offer a heart wrenching, emotional story that follows the lives of people, their love interests, and the trauma an awful situation has upon families. “Ž
Perhaps the biggest affirmation that this show is spectacular is that “ŽThe New York Times references the show in saying something nice about Israel (a real rarity). Mike Hale in The Times calls it the 2nd best TV show of 2013. The only downside to this show is that you’ll end up really missing Israel when you see it – it’s so amazing and shows so much of the Jewish state that it leaves you yearning for even more.
