Report: Israeli Defense Minister Rips John Kerry Peace Efforts, Calls Him ‘Obsessive’ and ‘Messianic’

JNS.org – Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon reportedly said U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry “operates based upon an unfathomable obsession and a messianic feeling” in his brokering of the current Israeli-Palestinian conflict negotiations.
Kerry has made 10 trips to Israel and the Palestinian territories this year for the negotiations. In December, he proposed a security plan that called for the Israeli military to be stationed on border crossings and mountaintops for up to 10 years in the Jordan Valley. During that period of time, Israeli forces would train Palestinian security forces to eventually replace them. The Palestinians rejected Kerry’s plan. Ya’alon, in closed conversations before Kerry’s latest visit to the region, called the plan “not worth the paper it was written on,” Yedioth Ahronoth reported.
“[Kerry’s plan] contains neither security nor peace,” Ya’alon said. “Only our continued presence in Judea and Samaria and the Jordan River will guarantee that Ben-Gurion Airport and Netanya do not become targets for missiles from every direction.”
“Secretary of State John Kerry—who came here very determined, and operates based upon an unfathomable obsession and a messianic feeling—cannot teach me anything about the Palestinians,” he said.
