Golan Heights Explosion Injures 4 IDF Soldiers; Israel Strikes Syrian Military Positions
by Joshua Levitt
Four Israel Defense Forces soldiers on Tuesday were injured, one severely, by an explosive device in the Golan Heights along the Syrian border, the IDF said in a statement. In response, the IDF “retaliated towards Syrian military positions,” the statement said.
Al Arabiya, via Twitter, cited sources as saying that the Israeli solder severely injured in the blast subsequently died from his wounds.
In its statement, the IDF said Tuesday’s explosion followed a similar attack on Friday, when a concealed explosive device was activated against IDF soldiers at the Israel-Lebanon border. Following that attack, the IDF “retaliated with fire” towards Hezbollah terror infrastructure in southern Lebanon.
Two weeks ago, on March 5, two Hezbollah affiliated terrorists were identified attempting to plant an explosive device near the Israel – Syria border, in the northern Golan Heights. IDF forces responded immediately and fired towards the suspects, the IDF statement said.
The IDF said the UN peace keeping mission in the Golan, the UNDOF, was “informed of the severity the incident.”
