JNS.org – More than 68 years after he was liberated from Auschwitz, 73-year-old Israeli Holocaust survivor Menachem Bodner’s search for his long-lost brother has gone viral.
Bodner turned to social media last year in an attempt to find his twin brother Jeno, whom he was separated from when the concentration camp was liberated in January 1945.
The World Jewish Congress says its Facebook post on Bodner’s search has been seen by more than 17 million users, with more than 48,000 “likes,” 331,607 shares, and 26,582 comments since it was posted on March 15, 2013.
Bodner’s own Facebook page, A7734, named after the number tattooed on Jeno’s arm by the Nazis, has more than 45,000 “likes” as well.
Bodner, who was four and a half years old at the time, explained in an interview with CNN last year how he may have been separated from his brother amid the chaos following liberation.
“I was in the camp. A man came in who was looking for his wife and daughter,” Bodner said.
“I stood before him and asked if he would be my father. He picked me up in his hands and took me out of the camp,” he said.
Eventually his adopted father took him to Israel and raised him there.
