JNS.org – Former Friends star Lisa Kudrow (who played Phoebe), appearing on the Conan O’Brian Show on Wednesday, detailed her son’s recent “drive-by bar mitzvah” in a Los Angeles mall—courtesy of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement.
The impromptu bar mitzvah for Kudrow’s 16-year-old son, who never had a bar mitzvah at the traditional age of 13, is a result of Chabad’s nearly 50-year-old “Tefillin Campaign,” in which Chabad members are to offer Jewish passersby in public areas the opportunity to don tefillin if they had not already done so that day. The history of the Tefillin Campaign can be found here and here.
