Once Again, Indyk Interferes on Israel

The former U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Martin Indyk, has called on Israel’s leaders “to stay out of America’s politics” – just hours after he urged the United States to interfere in Israel’s politics, something he himself has been doing for years.

The latest events began with John Boehner’s invitation to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address a joint session of the U.S. Congress. The New York Times quickly sought a comment from Indyk, who is constantly quoted by the news media since the conclusion of his singularly unsuccessful term as the Obama Administration’s chief envoy for Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.

“Netanyahu is using the Republican Congress for a photo-op for his election campaign,” said Indyk, who apparently finds it inconceivable that the prime minister of Israel might want to speak to Congress about using Congressional sanctions to prevent Iran from nuking Israel. “And the Republicans are using Bibi for their campaign against Obama… It would be far wiser for us to stay out of their politics and for them to stay out of ours.”

That line about both sides staying out of the other’s business sounds reasonable and evenhanded. Until you realize that before he spoke to the Times, Indyk let loose his real feelings via Twitter: “Why should Netanyahu be able to speak and Herzog not,” he angrily tweeted, referring to Israeli Labor Party leader Isaac Herzog. “If Boehner is placing Congress into the midst of the Israeli elections, why don’t the Democrats invite Herzog too?”

Yes, Muslim Antisemitism Exists in the US

The answer to Indyk’s petulant question is that Netanyahu is the prime minister. Israel’s prime minister is invited to speak in other countries and the leader of the opposition is not, just as no Republican leader is invited to speak when President Obama is invited to deliver an address in another country.

Note, by the way, that Indyk served as ambassador to Israel in 1995, when Yitzhak Rabin was prime minister, and in 2000, when Ehud Barak was prime minister. We don’t recall him ever demanding that Netanyahu, who was then the opposition leader, be invited along when Rabin or Barak came to the United States. For some reason, Indyk’s demand for “fairness” and “balance” applies only when it benefits the Israeli Labor Party.

The irony is that if there is one person in the diplomatic world who is well known for interfering in Israel’s politics, it’s Martin Indyk.

Consider:

  • Knesset Members David Levy and Aryeh Deri revealed on July 26, 1995, that Ambassador Indyk personally lobbied them, and other MKs, to oppose a Knesset bill that would have made it harder for Israel to give the Golan Heights to Syria. (Agence France Presse, July 26, 1995)
  • Israel Television reported on December 18, 1996, that Ambassador Indyk visited former Chief Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, spiritual leader of the Shas party, and asked Yosef to order Interior Minister Eli Suissa (a Shas representative) to block a housing project in a part of Jerusalem that was beyond the 1967 line.
  • The chairman of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, MK Uzi Landau, revealed in March 1997 that Ambassador Indyk had been “pressuring members of the government” and “interfering in Israel’s internal political affairs.” (Haaretz, March 16, 1997)
  • The Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot reported on July 8, 1997, that Ambassador Indyk “took part in the effort” to block Prime Minister Netanyahu’s choice for finance minister.

It’s worth recalling that when Indyk was nominated, in 1997, to serve as Assistant Secretary of State, The New Republic opposed the nomination – on the grounds that as ambassador in Israel, Indyk “distinguished himself by exhorting [President Clinton] to campaign for [Labor Party leader] Shimon Peres” in the 1996 Israeli elections.

That’s right, the same Indyk who tweeted about inviting the head of Israel’s Labor Party to address Congress, and then turned around a few hours later and piously told the New York Times that neither side should interfere in the other’s politics – he himself sought American presidential intervention to help a previous Labor Party leader in an Israeli election.

Hypocrisy? Two-facedness? Political bias? Sure, all of those terms describe Martin Indyk. But most of all, his behavior appears to be guided by a desperate hope that nobody will bother to take a look at his own record.

Indyk (yiddish for “turkey”), is nothing more than the real life personification of the antisemites’ ugly Jew, who would do anything for money. He gleefully takes baksheesh from Qatar and who knows how many other enemies of Israel (George Soros?), to give legitimacy to their hateful screeds.

Martin, the despicable turkey, has sold his soul for a fistful of dollars, what a disgrace! What a hypocrite!!

  • Pierre Elie Mamou

Why are you smiling Mr Indyk ? To whom ?

  • Fritz Kohlhaas

    Indyk is pure slime!!!

  • Dr. Stephen Steinlight

There has never been a shortage of slimy Jews like Indyk, a disgrace for non-Jews who makes proud Jews cringe. It is difficult to imagine how he sleeps at night knowing the contempt he arouses among his “own kin” while simultaneously having at least an inkling of how much he’s despised by the anti-Semites and anti-Zionists who exploit him and know exactly what a loathsome life form he is.

Indyk: turkey by name, turkey by nature!

  • RobiMac

Indyke’s got that wrong. The Us needs to stay out of Israel’s politics….and Israel’s everything else.

  • Why trust any of the “moderate” men? They have always been ambivalent at best about an independent Jewish state, especially in its modernizing mode. See http://clarespark.com/2013/12/07/ben-hecht-v-ben-urwand-the-un-jewish-left-and-assimilated-jews/. And Bibi’s father was influenced by Jabotinsky and other Revisionist Zionists.

    Great article!

  • The American Congress needs to hear from PM Netanyahu simply because “he has boots on the ground” is informed about this dire threat to the entire world, and simply because the Israeli PM is not biased one way or another concerning Iran. The last thing tiny Israel wants is a full scale war with Iran, yet Israel will not cower within the context of Iranian duplicity. The US Congress needs to hear what Netanyahu has to say so that they(the Congress) can make better decisions about the crises that is yet to unfold. Naturally, Mr. Obama is against this move by Boehner to invite the Israeli PM to speak to Congress. Boehner is trying to prevent another” You can keep your plan” lie from happening again. We need all of the facts.

Singularly the most squalid of the Clinton gang of “useful idiots”. the man behind the overthrow of Bibi, 1999, when 3 heavy handed, Clinton loyalists, Democratic dirty tricks experts like Stan Greenberg (pollster), Robert Schrum (election strategeries), James Carville, the Raging Cajun, a blithering fool whose most recent screed ( about a Democratic majority will in power for the next 40 years. could be found on the bottom shelf of the ear 99 Cents store), all converged at the Dan Hotel, one block from the labot party offices, 1999, to fashion a message for Ehoud Barak, before Clinton’s departure. It was a Putsch with no blood on the streets. Clinton wanted a legacy, he even flew to arranhe a meeting in Sahrem a Sheikh later on to bridge the gap of the so called negotiations, in Sharem A Sheikh, Sinai, Egypt, to save Ehoud Barak’s party from being decimated. So when the Obama loyalists speak about protocol, none interference, they speak of an ideal world with no resemblance to history, because the U.S has been in this ugly business since they invaded Mexico during the 19th century, orchestrating coups, phony elections, disinformation campaigns, terror campaigns in way over 50 counties during the last 200 years. The sleay Indyk, who got used to eat off the giving hands of Haim Saban, never explained who paid for the Barak team to wage this project to unseat Bibi, but I would not be too surprised if I was told that some lefty givers like Saban or Soros were the happy donors. Since the 60’s the U.S has been meddling in israeli politics, including, placing CIA types in an apprtment building across from where Ehoud barak used to live, (TLV) hoping to catch his audio with sophisticated sound equipment. It was discovered and the operation folded quietly without an incident. One never wants to upset big daddy! This story can go into many pages, and to conclude, Israel does not represent the faint of hard, neither does the Obama regime on the side of the virtuous.

    INDYK IS SIMPLY JEALOUS!

Indyk and his ilk should be muzzled and put out to pasture.

To my knowledge, the Israeli Prime Minister is always invited to speak at the annual AIPAC meeting in D.C., as well as being invited to address the Congressional joint session.

Having neither heard nor seen any evidence of Boener being asked to invite Netanyahu what’s the big deal. The P.M. will have been in town anyway.

One more note on Indyk: he didn’t complain about Cameron lobbying the U.S. Congress.

In addition, in view of the fact that Iran has missles and weaponry capable of reaching Europe and the U.S and Canada, Indyk should be pleased the P.M. is going to address Congress.

“The New York Times quickly sought a comment from Indyk, who is constantly quoted by the news media since the conclusion of his singularly unsuccessful term as the Obama Administration’s chief envoy for Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.”

Why don’t the ‘All the News that Fits We Print’ New York Times and its fellow lamestream media progressive rags ever seek comments from Ambassador John Bolton?

Reporters who freely paint people and ideas ‘Conservative’ but never ‘Liberal’ cannot credibly claim neutrality, nor lack of their own agenda.

  • Martin Indyk. We fight for Israel anywhere in the world and that includes America.

I agree with every comment. Good one dante. exactly what i was going to say. As an American, i’m pretty upset with DC and the clown in chief. Boehner made a good will gesture to Bibi, because most of us love the Israelis because they are us, and we are them. God created us as brothers, not strangers. I hope Bibi rocks the Capitol Building, because i have more faith in him than our own leaders.

The “indyk” keeps on confirming that capos were not in all cases forced to be capos.
As to the invitation. Terrific choice by two sharp minded political representatives of two peoples.
The US administration has been financing the work of internal enemies here, plus hundreds of CIA, NSA and other operatives roam, spy, sabotage, train Islamic criminals, etc.
Apparently the US voters are unaware so here is an update for you. The latest saga of the poisonous State Department. The activities by the so called US consulate in our Capital, Jerusalem.
The US SD and of course the individual occupying the WH decided to turn the location into an armed camp including Islamic criminals as guards. The State of Israel allocated to the US a parcel of our land and other facilities according to a protocol agreed by both countries. The Baker follow on fellowship assumed that it is their prerogative to change the protocols and now it is an armed camp and training facility for our Islamic enemies under the US administration tutelage.
The “indyk” in question hails from that place since performing with a few other such, the same role for Baker.
Just now new allegations from well placed sources in Argentina identify the same administration of having forced the government there to stop investigating Iran’s part on the mass murders in two central Jewish facilities in BA. And the suspicions go farther than that…
There is far more to report.

I think the writer of this article is wrong. I think that Netanyahu’s behavior has been, not only boorish, not only cynical in his attempt to play to his electorate by showing that he can be tough on the unpopular American President, but in the long run, very hurtful to Israel’s interests that he puts as less important than his own political ambitions.
I do not like Obama, but I don’t think it is politic to act so discourteously to the President of the United States, esp. at a time when Israel has hardly any other friends in the whole world.

  • nelson marans

President Obama’s choice of anti-Israel Martin Indyk as the chief envoy to the failed peace talks between between Israel and The “Palestinian Authority” reflects our president’s view on the peace process. Ever willing to pressure Israel and Benjamin Netanyahu President Obama’s choice of Martin Indyk served to abort any possible peace.

As our ONLY true Middle East ally, obama has snubbed Bibi for yrs rather than welcoming him with open arms. Bibi cannot afford to play games with Iran,a country that continually calls for Israel s extinction and one who is pursuing nuclear arms despite the temporary “agreement’. Our president is a hugh dissapointment in this regard. Let’s not forget the US (Clinton/Indyk etc) interfered wit the 1999 election against Netanyahu. Clinton sent $$$$ political advisors to work for Barak against Netanyahu. Sadly the Democrats have a history of interfering. It really doesn’t matter the Obama administration is just plain ANTI ISRAEL and ANti Jewish.. They would have found another reason to attack I(srael.. Remember how Obama was/is silent when abbas, nasrallah and the iranians call him a fool ,liar and make ugly racist remarks

Netanyahu is the PM, dummy. herzog is just a fool with a famous surname. (just for example: herzog argued that Israel had an obligation to accept all the economic migrants that reached its borders. Q: how many migrants did herzog take into his house? A: 0 [that was easy, right? he’s a big talker so long as someone else is picking up the tab.]) so, that’s why Netanyahu gets the invitation, dummy. indyk needs therapy in a bad way. yeah, he needs an orthodontist, too, but that can wait…
BTW: one would agree that it would be politic to request that an understanding on the matter be reached between the WH and Congress; Netanyahu did not, as indyk said, insert himself into American politics, but it behooves all concerned to preempt a needless controversy, if that can be done.

    • spktruth

Bibi is not welcome to speak before the US congress or the US media for a photo op to advance himself while in midst of an election. Leave it to Bibi to INSERT himself in the US policy and breaking of US law.

He is an arrogant man, a war criminal who face his crimes, not face the US congress…GRAVE violation of US law.

1 of my staff subordinates sent out this letter and the very fine article and urged various members of the Jewish press to re-publish it. Here is the text:it is with mixed feelings that I send you this article and suggest that you republish it.

Martin Indyk is a very sincere person. He and Brookings have made available to me access to their inner workings. Thus I harbor warm feelings toward both.

However, several years ago, before its very public disclosure, I expressed concern over Qatar’s influence over Brookings analyses/recommendations. I documented the history of the key hires and the backgrounds of those stationed in Qatar and those whose findings and recommendations were influenced by apparent economic and political considerations.

There is very robust flow between the government and Brookings. (especially during Democratic administrations).

One very personal example is when a Brookings individual (who had previously and subsequently served at high levels in the Obama administration )unilaterally introduced into a US intelligence estimate that the supreme leader was very rational as a decision-maker and that there existed (not true) a fatwa forbidding Iran to develop and deploy nuclear weapons.

I pointed out that a published Council on Foreign Relations study also found that: Saddam Hussein was a “rational decision-maker” based on his assumptions of the world and the data that he was given. I also pointed out the extensive search which documented that no proof of the existence of any such fatwa was ever established, {in spite of public statements to the contrary from Hillary Clinton & Fareed Zakaria}. There was no discussion, no vote, nor any consensus… the “findings” were inserted and were issued through the agency that commissioned the work.

Unfortunately, Martin has a track record of actions that
should disqualify him from commenting and/or participation in this area. It is on this basis that I send you this article and urge your republication of it.
