The Anti-Defamation League has blasted the left-wing lobby group J Street for running an “inflammatory and repugnant” campaign against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Though it bills itself as a “pro-Israel, pro-peace” group, J Street has actively lobbied against sanctions on the Iranian regime, devoting its energies to attacking Netanyahu almost exclusively. Its latest petition campaign, around the slogan “Israel’s Prime Minister is not the spokesman for all Jews,” is directed at Netanyahu’s forthcoming speech to the US Congress on the threat posed by Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

“At the height of the controversy surrounding Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s scheduled speech to Congress, J Street’s petition campaign that attempts to distance itself and American Jews from Israel’s duly elected prime minister is inflammatory and repugnant,” ADL National Director Abraham Foxman said in a statement. “It exacerbates an already heated and politicized moment for U.S. Israel relations at a critical juncture in the West’s negotiations with Iran.”

As The Algemeiner reported yesterday, J Street is currently claiming that 84 percent of American Jews support President Obama’s position on Iran over Netanyahu’s. The organization did not produce any new polling to support this dramatic assertion, with executive director Jeremy Ben-Ami telling critics that a three month-old opinion poll it conducted, in which 84 percent respondents said that they would favor a deal that definitively precluded Iran from weaponizing its nuclear program, justified its conclusion that American Jews are backing the president’s outreach to Iran.

Foxman’s condemnation of J Street comes shortly after the ADL chief himself said that Netanyahu’s speech to Congress should be scrapped, arguing that the invitation to the Israeli prime minister extended by House Speaker John Boehner “looks like a political challenge to the White House.”

Zionist Organization of America head Mort Klein was among those who angrily responded to Foxman’s appeal to nix Netanyahu’s speech. “How dare ADL’s Abe Foxman harm the U.S., Israel’s, and the world’s efforts to fight these monstrous dangers by insulting the Prime minister of the Jewish state and the U.S. Congress by demanding Speaker Boehner rescind this important invitation,” Klein said.

J Street has been a front group for the PA for years. I don’t think they are fooling anyone. The real problem is that many main-stream Americans have supported the ADL for decades. Yet it was also Abraham Foxman who wrote the forward to the paperback re-publication of Mein Kampf several years ago. My jaw dropped when I saw that. The ADL needs new leadership. Rabbi Marvin Heir would be a great improvement.

  • As far back as Lord Balfour’s Declaration, it has been decreed that the creation of a Jewish National Home in Palestine should not affect the status of Jews in the Diaspora. Bibi is the prime minister of Israel based on an Israeli election. Iran’s nukes are a danger to the entire Middle East and to Europe. Iran is a longstanding enemy of the USA and Iranian nukes are not in the USA national interest. Bibi should speak to Congress when Democrats and Republicans agree to invite him and the President is involved. Bibi or his successor should address Congress after the Israeli election.

I’D LIKE TO FIND OUT IF THERE HAVE BEEN DONATIONS RECENTLY TO J Street. How much and from Whom they have received that money. Follow the money!!!! I’d like to know when those donations were made.

    • Jonathan H

From me, for one. A Jew that is relieved that someone’s finally expressing what a lot of younger (and older) Jews are now feeling. We won’t be intimidated by rabid and obviously orchestrated statements against any Jew who is unhappy with Netanyahu, Settlements, and appeasement of the growing Orthodox nuttiness in Israel. Enough already.

      • Denis Ojalvo

        Dear Jonathan,

The settlements are NOT in Indian reserves but in JUDEA & SAMARIA (Jewish reserves!)
Moreover, these are not on privately owned land but on STATE LAND.
The previous legitimate state entity there was the defunct Ottoman Empire. It’s successor, the Republic of Turkey rescinded every right on that territory by defining its present borders.
So, why Israel would give up its recovered ancestral land?

J Street is to the Obama Administration what CAIR is to the Muslim Brotherhood, a puppet on a string.

  • RobiMac

Well, J Street is clearly as peaceful as islam.

      victoria brandeis,

I HAVE BEEN RIPPING MAD SINCE I STARTED READING THIS ARTICLE, AND I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU!
THESE J STREETER JEWS ARE NO FRIENDS OF ISRAEL – AND ABSOLUTELY DO NOT HAVE HER BEST INTERESTS AT HEART. THEY ARE ARAB APPEASERS – I DO NOT CALL THEM “PALESTINIANS” – SINCE “PALESTINE” DOES NOT EXIST. I AM STILL SO FURIOUS!
ISRAEL, WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE, WILL BE THE ONLY PLACE THESE SELF-HATING JEWS WILL HAVE TO GO TO – AND THEY WILL GO – BECAUSE THEIR ARAB BEST FRIENDS WILL BE RUNNING AFTER THEM TO KILL THEM.

BIBI HAS IT RIGHT – HE ALWAYS HAS – AND THESE PEOPLE CAN’T STAND IT. HE IS THE ONE THAT MAKE SURE ISRAEL IS THE SAFE AND SECURE COUNTRY IT NEEDS TO BE FOR ALL JEWS!

SO, THE REST OF YOU BETTER GET OVER YOURSELVES.

  • Hugo

Looks like there’s unanimity among american Jews (?)

  • Michael Fox

Jewish groveling hand wringers apologizing for being Jewish.

J Street claims that in its poll, 84 percent of responding American Jews favored a deal with Iran precluding that nation from from weaponizing its nuclear program. On the surface, that sounds like a “no brainer.” A deeper look, requires brains and some research.

I could write a poll to skew the results that would conclude, 84 percent of responding American Jews do NOT favor Obama’s deal that would remove sanctions and allow the continuation of Iran’s nuclear ambitions, bringing it to within a couple of months of converting and weaponizing its nuclear program. Too late for negotiations and for debates in the democratic west to do anything about it.

The left has allied themselves with Iran. The right has allied themselves with Israel. America is a house divided. If Netanyahu speaks it will be the speacial heard round the world. Bebe should arm himself with some statistics and bring to light the actual amount of a Christians who have have been slaughtered, men, woman and children. Islam is Islam and Iran has threaten to destroy America the great Satan on many occasions. Explain to the American people what an EMP will do to the U.S. Eighty percent dead in the first 60 days. The Christian church’s will be hanging on every word Netanyahu says. This will be the biggest speech of the century and the last time America will hear the truth before the beginning of the tribulation. Make it a broad spectrum speach focusing on evey bad aspect of Militant Islam. My feelings are that the orders for the burning of the Jordanian and the killing of the female American hostage were orders from from the White a house to IsIs.They need congress to fast track obams as access to military militias in the name of a world war with IsIs. They will stop at nothing, they are ruthless, and will use any means possible to affect American opinion for their evil purposes. They must destroy Israel and set the stage for the take down of America. They will ruthlessly attack anyone who attempts to hinder this process. That’s why they are so upset with Netanyahu’s speech.

  • Per Ardua

Jihad Street is no longer a surprise.

  • Bullfrog Europe

Who cares about Obama ? He will be consigned to history and Israel needs to think of its future.

J Street should be appalled at their attempts to divide Jewry. Israel’s survival is paramount to world Jewry.

  • Reform School

Like Team Obama, which hates the United States as much as Israel, there’s no disputin’ J Street loves Putin’s support

  • Reform School

J Street’s religion has long been Socialism, not Judaism.

  • DocReality

Please. The ADL’s remarks about Netanyahu haven’t been so great either. This is a case of pot calling the kettle trayf.

  • Foxman a world famous dhimmi v Ben-ami a world famous antisemite

  • Any Jew who opposes the prime minister Netanyahu opposes Hashem for Netanyahu apointment to Prime minister was by divine appointment. As jews we must standy by P.M.who stands for Israel not that fool who pretends to be presidential.we must understand like our ancestors who were foreigners in Egypt for 400 hundred years so are we in America even if American born, We are Jews first Americans last. Am Yisreal chai!

  • yussi

Kudos to Mort Klein and the ZOA!! Mr Foxman,YOU DON T NEGOTIATE with people who openly and continually state they want to wipe you off the map!! What part of that don t you comprehend? Go plan your next card party, cruise or dance gala and leave the job of defending Israel, and YES Jews worldwide to the man who has the courage to do so and while youre at it grow a pair or resign.

  • yussi

J Street is composed of ignorant self hating jews and should not be taken seriously by anyone. They are a danger to our wellbeing. However, who is the ADL to “call them out” when their president Abe Foxman has called for a boycott of Bibi s speech!!! What is wrong with us jews? Havent we learned anything from the 40 s in germany and the current blatant and open antisemitism that prevails today??
They better hope that Bibi stays in power and is not replaced by another spineless politician who will cave to this administrations pressure..Where is Rabbi Kahane when we need him!!!

  • Harold Moskowitz

Foxman has been a consistent lapdog to Obama and the ADL spends more time on issues other than anti-semitism like gay issues and race nonsense. best thing is that he is leaving.

  • The J Street group is about as honest as Obama.

    I can tell you that I am one Jewish individual, who believes that Obama’s position on Iran is beyond absurd;

of course, Obama’s position on other federal issues is equally absurd.

Any Jew who supports the O position on Iran is drinking some kind of K-Aid.

  • BRYNABABY

I have news for the opportunist who runs JStreet. They do NOT speak for all American Jews!!!I am a supporter of Israel, a liberal Democrat who voted twice for Obama and I totally reject JStreet and it’s campaign against Israel (oh yes, in fact, that is what they are doing). Jeremy Ben Ami is a self-serving, ‘ambitious’, manipulator who does not serve the interests of Jews anywhere.

  • martin

durig WW2 there were Jews and Jewish organizations like J Street who would not speak out against Hitler as aresult 6 million Jews were slautered.Prime Minister Netanyahu is the spokesman for Israel and a spokesman for the Jewish people..Today we have a man who will speak for us…and he must speak at Congress!

The message being sent is obvious. The next time some of liberal minded Rabbis decide to protest against the police , or in Fergenson , Missouri, or the streets of America for causes involving other minorities, remember how the Prime Minister of Israel is being disrespected. Tell me this is not being orchestrated by Obama.

More black lawmakers shunning Netanyahu address

Jewish lawmakers, nearly all Democrats, were increasingly inclined to attend the Israeli leader’s speech next month in Congress.

  • Jstreet is Anti Semite and intends to destroy Israel. Jeremy Bird of Jstreet need to be arrested and charge with spying against Israel.

  • Robert Weintraub

We are paying altogether too much attention to J Street. As someone who has been involved in Jewish organizations for most of my life I would say that American Jews divide themselves into two groups regarding Israel: those who are pro and those who are indifferent Those who are hostile would be no more than 1-2%

    • Jonathan H

And the pro-Israel group includes a large (and perhaps growing) group who loves Israel and is heartbroken to see what it is becoming under the current leadership.

  • Julian Clovelley

For years Zionist extremism has been slagging off the United Nations, the International Criminal Court, International Law, The International Red Cross Geneva Conventions, Amnesty International, Oxfam, and a plethora of highly respected International Charities. Added to that has been a crude campaign against the Democrat Party, President Obama – let alone any Jew who dares to protest.

In addition it has slagged off independent antifascist media such as the Guardian Newspaper, and used front organisations to spread its propaganda, often masquerading as “journalists” or “media monitors” or even as “human rights organisations”

Suddenly they are copping what they have been dishing out, and sadly innocent people – as always – are collateral damage, even children on a bus….

Unpleasant – isn’t it? When one side drops its standards it is not long before the opposition feels forced to drop theirs – and the result is a rise of antisemitism because Zionism won’t recognise and label it anything else. Isreal and the Jewish communites’ support has always come from their high moral standard, their friendship , openness, and hospitality – and their generosity and intellectual decency. Never let your own drop those standards

To survive Israel must maintain the highest moral standards and be above criticism – That is why the Settlements must go, the Occupation end, the Blockade be brought to a close. It is why it must negotiate at every level

It is also why no two class state is possible – there can be no Apartheid division based on religion and supposed Genealogy – that is the path to backwardness and racism – it is not defensive it is offensive, always and with no exceptions

It is why Judaism must come to terms with the role of mythology – why attempts to create a “Jewish History” separate to world history – and in the perception of the rest of the world just plain daft – have to stop. There was no Divine Donation, no Exodus – no Biblical Davidic Kingdom – get over it. It is all religion, and religion is like dirty spectacle lenses – you have to clean them up or change them. So long as they are defective you cannot see clearly looking through them – Zionism, whether it actually believes in the religious and Genealogical foundation or not, deliberately sees the world through smeared lenses. It is about time a modern progressive Judaism condemned it for that. And the criticism need not emanate from Israel itself. We want peace in the Middle East – negotiated settlement of issues and a permanent end to not just antisemitism but its inflammatory causes in “separateness” and “otherness” whether inflicted or self inflicted. There is neither Gentile nor Jew – there never was

What we have is a terrible mess we all need to cooperate to sort out. The myths are on collision course in the Middle East and the population is suffering. The only way out is to come to terms with them – to recognise that the only differences are cultural – that there is no separate race or people – they are imaginary artefacts kept in place by fairy stories.

We are fighting each other – defaming each other – and killing each other over phantasms – It is time to stop. The quickest way to do that is for one of the three crucial religions of the religion to grow up – creating an impulse and urgency for the others to do so themselves.
