JNS.orgIsraeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, addressing a visiting delegation from the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations on Monday in Jerusalem, called it his “sacred duty” to speak to Congress on March 3 about the danger of a nuclear Iran.

While Netanyahu’s speech has been questioned by the White House, some Congressional Democrats, and some Jewish organizations on the grounds that House Speaker John Boehner did not consult President Barack Obama about his invitation of the prime minister, Netanyahu said, “I think the real question that should be asked is, how could any responsible Israeli prime minister refuse to speak to Congress on a matter so important to Israel’s survival? How could anyone refuse an invitation to speak on a matter that could affect our very existence when such an invitation is offered?”

Netanyahu said he is going to Congress because Israel “has been offered the opportunity to make its case on this crucial issue before the world’s most important parliament; because a speech before Congress allows Israel to present its position to the elected representatives of the American people and to a worldwide audience; because Congress has played a critical role in applying pressure to the Iranian regime—the very pressure that has brought the ayatollahs to the negotiating table in the first place; and because Congress may very well have a say on the parameters of any final deal with Iran.”

He added, “I don’t see this issue in partisan terms. The survival of Israel is not a partisan issue. It concerns everyone, all the supporters of Israel from every political stripe.”

AS a human being, as a Jew and as an AMerican I stand proud to be alive when this momentous speech will take place. Bibi is warning of the disaster to come if Obama and company have their way. I stand stronly disillusioned with the Democratic Party which plays politics with the safety of the world by standing with Obama for the sake of political circus. I never thought I would say this but as a lifelong Democrat, I wish them an unsuccessful time till the election of 2016. I hope Obama will be stopped in every undertaking that he aspires to during his presidency.

    • Julian Clovelley

On your claim to be a “lifetime Democrat” I would be asking for evidence Ivan – but putting that aside one comes to the core of your comment:

“Bibi is warning of the disaster to come if Obama and company have their way. I stand strongly disillusioned with the Democratic Party which plays politics with the safety of the world by standing with Obama for the sake of political circus.”

Whether you support him or not, the one posturing is Netanyahu who actually has no clear stated alternative policy to negotiations. Currently this is a circus with only one clown.

Maybe Bibi needs to be reminded, both by Jewish communities and by the American people generally, that the only way to actually find yourself in a war is for one side, or the other, to start one. It is rather like alcoholism, where it is “the first drink that does the damage”

Wars escalate, and an escalating war is precisely what must be avoided. Negotiation is the only real way out of the present impasse. But negotiation to be successful requires the parties to come to the table with clean hands. Israel, so long as it occupies and settles the West Bank, does not in the eyes of Iran, and the world, have clean hands. It casts itself in the role of the invader, of a nation with an apartheid mentality that seeks to annex external territory, over which it has no right – except a delusion based on an ancient myth.

Sadly Netanyahu has become so fixated on appeasing the worst sufferers and promulgators of this delusion, for internal Israeli reasons, which being the the zionist extremists, that he is inextricably associated with the Settlement and Occupation policies
      – and that he is an integral part of that situation, whether you support him or not. So what’s there for him to talk about? America grew sick of war during the long running, and disastrously failed, Vietnam War. The memory of the loss of the children of America is etched in the long black memorial wall. For many American families that was their own “Holocaust” – a burnt offering to failed policy. Since Vietnam battles have been fought by a professional military, and not a conscripted one

An escalated middle Eastern conflict could easily descend into a battle between the allies of the belligerent parties, with an already hostile Russia on one side, and America on the other – both with tactical nuclear arms capable of advancing steps up the escalation ladder. It would be suicide for any American Administration to go down the path of conscription for what could become a nuclear conflict. There will be no draft

The question really is what point there is to the one-clown circus. That is why I really don’t care if Bibi performs in it or not. Maybe it will win him the Israeli election or maybe he will lose it as a result of this speech. But all we will really end up with after all this is either a happy clown or a sad clown, and a world that for the most part will not attend – or will switch to another channel to watch re-runs of the Simpsons.

bravo Bibi, this should have been O,bama making us realize the danger of dealing with Iran.He is the great appeaser.

  • Linda Bee

I am anxiously awaiting the PM’s arrival to speak to our congress. The current administration here seems to think if they sugar coat the message, we’ll all be just fine. THIS IS NOT TRUE! The entire world is in danger from these fanatics, but especially Israel and her people. Stand strong Mr. Prime Minister, we are with you! You are an honorable leader, and a great warrior for your country. We must ferret out these killers wherever they are, before they are too big to stop. God Bless you and keep you safe Mr. Netanyahu. I STAND WITH ISRAEL!

  • Radical Islam, not ALLAH, is the root of evil.

This revised article is adapted from an Article by Dr. Azriel Carlebach which was published in the Israeli newspaper “Ma’ariv” on 7 October 1955.

Translated from Hebrew with Google translator, edited, modified and completely re-written in English
    ————-

“The source of the conflict between Israel and the Arabs is not borders, but the Islamic ideology. Arabs are members of Islam, and with it, according to the world views, you can not converse with it. With Islam you do not, and cannot, live side by side as neighbors in peace.”

The clear and simple truth is, that between the Islamic world and the culture of the Western world, there is not one common word, thus, there is not, will not, and cannot be any understanding.

This intention is not religion, because all religions can be good or bad. Rather, it depends what their believers will implement or neglect in its moral principles. The intention of Islam is its influence on social life and social services, on the sentiment of the world and the relationship with other human beings.

For fifty or sixty consecutive generations the Muslims have been educated and brought up in Islam to rape human nature: not to use the power of reason; and not wanting to utilize individual rights. In fact, Islam, when exposed, will actually dim, darken, and further an undefined Allah. Leadership is strict and capricious, hidden, and sick. This is the essence of Islamic religions, demanding their followers not to question. A person who undertakes Islamic belief says: “Allah il Allah”, not because he is convinced of the idea, but because he has entrusted himself to a tyrant.

Such faith by its very nature may not be distributed with intellectual persuasion or guided by a moral beacon, which would require the work of mind and body. Rather, it demands to be distributed only by knuckle and physical force. Thus, there is a requirement of constant holy war against the un-believers in order to “bring them to the bosom of the true faith by force with the sword of al-Islam Allah the lover of blood”. The danger is largely never manifest by itself, but with a finger stuck to the trigger and a small bomb carried by the crazy individual that can destroy an entire physical and ideological sect.

The danger for the West against Islam is far greater than that of communism. The Communist ideology has a multiple rationalistic nuclei lacking in the Muslim religion. With Communism one can have dialogue based on the foundations of give and take because they take into account the harsh reality of measured forces, formulating demands, weighing and considering proposals by its benefits.

All these particulars do not exist in Islam. Muslims have never agreed on anything – will be whatever will be – even among themselves. They can not bring anything to fruition – not just in matters of Israel. The whole mighty Muslim world could not come to an agreement on one common postage stamp. Their responses to anything has no relevance to common sense. Their responses are calculated on emotion, transient and baseless. You can talk about “business” with anyone, even with the devil, but not with Allah.

We created – and continue to create – inexcusable foolishness that cannot be forgiven. We are not helping the world depicting Arabs that do not exist at all, and are only the fruits of our wishful imagination. Thus we are adding insult to injury when we distort the image and narrow the conflict as only a border dispute between Israel and its neighbors. Above all, it does not correspond to reality. The issue of borders is not the real source of conflict; rather, the true source is the Islamic ideology.

If our neighbors were Westerners, for example Protestants, we would have for a long time been living in peace with them, just like the Norwegians and Swedes. Even if they were Catholics our relationship would be settled and we would get along like the French and English in Canada, and like many South American countries among themselves. However, here in Israel we have been trying for over fifty years in any and all ways possible to reach some kind of an agreement with the followers of Islam. Yet, a solution has never even appeared on the horizon with even a shadow of hope because the essence of the problem does not lie with actions, facts and fears. Rather, the problem lies only in the fact that Arabs are members of Islam. Thus, because they are Radical Muslims, as the world now knows, you cannot converse with them. It does not matter who the other party is and with what rightful claim; with Radical and extremist Islam you cannot live side by side in peace.

Consequently, presenting the dispute as a conflict between two similar people equips the Arabs-Muslim arsenal of an argument that is not theirs. If the argument with them is really political, then there are aspects to either side. Then we appear as if we came to a land that was completely Arabic, thus we conquered, occupied and put ourselves as a wedge between them and through them, and we burdened them with refugees, and our army is a danger to them, etc. etc. Is it possible that one can justify this or that party. For instance, in this presentation of a rational and political problem, it becomes understandable to the European minds to our detriment.

The Arabs-Muslims claim certain complaints that are accepted by World opinion under normal legal fight. However, even though reality proves no substance to such claims, it is the source of the hostile Worldly stance. All true political and social concepts are not in the real world of the Arabs-Muslims .

Conquest by the power of the sword, in their eyes, and the eyes of Radical Islam, is not at all an injustice. On the contrary, they believe it is a right and a crushing proof of eternal ownership.

The care for refugees and dispossessed brothers is not in the Islamic train of thought; Allah expelled them, Allah will take care of them. A Muslim politician has never been bothered or excited on aspects like this (unless calamity risked his personal status). Therefore, even without the occupation or the refugee problem, the Arabs would have opposed Israel with the same force and vengeance. Based on the criteria we are negotiating with Arab-Muslims, it seems to the World we are the savages who cloak ourselves in the gown of European justice. Thus, instead of alerting the people of the world, we anesthetize them.

This is the basis of our mistake, and in my humble opinion, the secret of our isolation and our failures:
that we, – though not crying about the sting of the stabbing into our flesh – teeter on the open mouth of the abyss in an effort for the peace of the world. We ask for bandages to bind the wounds from where we were bitten, and we do not warn: Here circling between all your feet, is a mad dog!!

Consider this, what if when Hitler came to power, we recognize and would say he was indeed an anti-Semite? However, because he is the founder of a supposed wise and respected religion that we should not be concerned about him. Rather, we should extend our hand to him for peace, and dare to resolve among ourselves any small private disagreements. Then afterwards enter into a covenant of peace with him, and thus, help him in developing and promoting his teachings and to spread his influence.

We would be committing sin not only to our struggle for the existence of our country and the lives of our sons and daughters, we would also be sinners to the world as a whole if we ignore and hide the simple truth which resides in the heart of all of us, – including government officials when they announce and declare peace – which is: the enemy is the perverse ideology of Radical Islam.

The Radical Arab-Muslim is not only our enemy because we are residing here in Israel. He is our enemy even if we were sitting at the North Pole because the Radical Arab-Muslims and the ideology of Radical Islam is the enemy of all the free world. It is the enemy of all fertile minds, any kind of initiative, and any creative ideas. The Radical Arab-Muslim is the enemy of life for every Jew, every Christian, every non-muslim, and every Muslim. Whatever is given in his hand, whether a sword of wood or a tank of steel, he will use to become a threat to all human beings.

The Radical Arab-Muslim has never contributed, and if history holds true, will never contribute anything which is good to this world. He has not brought forth even one person who has led the world forward in any area of human existence. Without a doubt he is darkness; Radical Islam is the catalyst to all which is negative; he is the prison to 900 million people who are being tortured; he is the root, the essence and the obstacle to peace in the world. Therefore, as long as we do not make the effort to succeed to impart to the free world this knowledge, we will always be as the first victims for the lack of knowledge.

  • PM Netanyahu I am in agreement with you & our whole world disagreement with life is plain and simple STUPID. Why peoples leaders won’t agree that life is a need which serves purpose for all & everything here on earth is unknown to me. Money is a resource needed by all for everything. Our existence would be less without you & all you govern.

We all have common sense & a purpose of life is to learn how to use it. Education is a way that doesn’t always require a classroom. That’s why I always advise to be right, do good, stay safe & pay attention, it’s always worth it…

Does anyone really believe that President Obama is incensed at Netanyahu over a presumed breach of political protocol? Let us not forget that this is the same President who has repeatedly gone out of his way to insult and subvert the Israeli Prime Minister, whether by making him wait during an official visit to the White House, or by leaking derogatory insults and barbs from “anonymous” administration sources.

It would seem that President Obama’s true aim is to deny the Israel Prime Minister a public soapbox from which he might alert the American people to the dangers of a pending bad deal with Iran.

In the end, this manufactured “crisis” is all about silencing Netanyahu while working to ram through a highly suspect nuclear agreement under the radar of the American public.

  • dungeondevil

By cracky, He’s go’in to get away with it. He’s playing Churchill at Fulton Missouri in 1946 telling all the world about “The Iron Curtain.”

  • P.M. Netanyahu is absolutely right to take the opportunity offered him to talk to the Congress on the issue of letting Iran manufacture nuclear weapons. Obama does not seem to know the first thing about schoolyard bullies. They bully only as long as the other kids act frightened. If only ONE stands up to the bully, he usually folds like an umbrella. Since this is a major issue of Homeland Security for both Israel and the United States, it seems to me that our Congress ought to have a say in these negotiations, since Obama tends to take his wishes for reality, or simply does not have the courage to stand firm against Iran. Does he really believe Iran will give up its nuclear program that it has been doggedly developing for so many years without serious sanctions? Does he really believe, Iran, the second largest oil producer on the planet needs nuclear power to produce enough energy for peaceful purposes??
He is not kidding the American or the Israeli people. The only one he is kidding is himself – at our expense.

  • Sonia Willats

Indeed, the survival of Israel is not a partisan issue. I believe the G-d of Israel himself has also decreed a land for the Jewish people. The deep opposition from the Obama camp is in direct proportion to the importance to the speech.

  • pxfragonard

Since when do duly elected legislators have to consult with the head of the executive branch? He didn’t invite the man to dinner at the White House but to address Congress. The president is not a king and, frankly, who Congress invites is none of his business. Besides, I thought this was all fisked anyway and that the proper channels were indeed followed.

  • Cynthia

You have my support Bibi, give them a speech to end all speeches.

  • esther noodelman

Good for you,Prime Minister Netanyahu! We support you totally on this critical issue. But you also know that saving one life is like saving the world. Now that you are speaking in front of Congress, please beg them because the whole House of Israel worldwide is counting on you and your persuasive powers to get Obama to release Pollard and send him back to IsraEL ON YOUR PLANE SO THAT HE HAS A CHANCE TO LIVE`you owe this to him,to us and to yourself AND IN SO DOING,YOU ARE ALSO REDEEMING AMERICA`S GOOD NAME.

  • Joyce Bross

I am an American citizen who fully supports Israel, and agree with PM Netanyahu that Congress and the American people need to know the truth about Iran. I don’t believe President Obama’s ideology and I am concerned about where he is leading America.

I respect PM Netanyahu far above my own President, which is very sad. Being a Christian, I have a strong affinity with Israel and the Jewish people, and see danger in negotiations with Iran.

  • Julian Clovelley

The trouble is that Israel’s position brought before Congress is not as innocent as one might like it to be

It is, after all,l Israel that has occupied territory of another nationality for nearly two generations, Israel that has built racist (sic) settlements on stolen land in the West Bank, Israel that most undermines efforts to build a viable Palestinian State.

So when you have fixed that problem, what is there to tell us about Iran that we don’t know?

    Here are a few things we all know;

    1. politically it is a de facto theocratic authoritarian and largely fundamentalist inspired regime
    2. it has a large military establishment
    3. its Government does not like the State of Israel and has a strong tendency to be what can be considered as anti-zionist
    4. it has finite energy resources in terms of oil, and is building a civilian nuclear power industry to compensate for when the oil runs out
    5. it has internal uranium deposits that are of a fairly low level of concentration, certainly below desirable nuclear energy source richness, but enrichable to produce nuclear weapons without importing uranium.
    6. it has enrichment technology to produce nuclear fuel for civilian power reactors
    7. the same technology can be employed to enrich ore to weapons grade
    8. it is developing mobile missile delivery systems
    9. Israel already possesses about eighty nuclear warheads together with delivery systems
    10. America and Russia have over seven thousand each – including very high yield weapons and ICBM delivery systems.

As far as I can make out Iran isn’t doing anything different to what one might expect from any nation – including leaving the weapons option open. The imperative is to persuade them to discuss regional security

    This is unlikely to happen:

    a) in an atmosphere of lack of respect and military threat.
    b) so long as the Occupation and settlement policy continues.

What’s there to listen to in an Israeli Prime Ministers speech? – especially when that PM is in the middle of an internal political campaign.

I don’t have a problem with him speaking but I don’t delude myself anything but a headache will come of it unless a concrete proposal is on offer – In such case the correct forum is the United Nations Assembly.

    • zadimel

The “few things we all know” is based on ignorance. For example, the following respond to your numeric listing;’theocratic and authoritarian and largely fundamentalist inspired regime” is intentionally distorted. All citizens, Jewish and non-Jewish are equal before the law in Israel. While non-Jews need not serve in the military, many Arab Israelis volunteer. The Jewish State has had an acting president who was an Arab Israeli. What Arab state has had an acting president who was Jewish? What? I can’t hear you. Israel has had an Arab Israeli as speaker of the Knesset. What Arab country has had a Jewish speaker of its legislature? At least three Arab Israelis have reached the rank of general. What Arab countries have had Jewish generals? The Israeli diplomatic corps has had ambassadors and consuls who were Arab Israelis. During the recent fighting in Syria, thousands of Syrians were treated by IDF medical units in the Golan area. Indeed, the wife and daughter of the leader of Hamas in Gaza were treated for serious conditions in Israel – not in Jordan,Lebanon,Egypt,Saudi Arabia,Iraq or Iran.

      • zadimel

Continued from above: 2) Indeed, the IDF has had to be strong enough to defeat their enemies since its establishment in 1948. 3)Which “government” are you refering to? 4)What is your point? Israel is self-sufficient in natural gas, and will soon be obtaining oil.5)-8) What is your point? 9)Israel has about 200 to 400 nuclear devices. The Jewish State has the capability to plow Iran and any other enemy in its neighborhood back to the stone age.10)What does that have to do with anything? The disputed territory will continue to be disputed until the Palestinians and other Arabs stop planning the destruction of Israel and the rocketing of its civilians.

  • statcitizen

Bibi Netanyahu has as a human being and as a leader more brains and courage in his little finger than all the Democrats together, hiding behind their failed Leader.

Of course the PM should take advantage of the invitation of the Spkr. to address the US Congress and…the people
of the USA…I do hope that the media will NOT play to
the pressure from the WH to Not air the speech….Why
should we not listen to the PM…..So what that Pres. O.
wasn’t consulted bout the invite…the Pres. Does Not
Control Congress……..The People are supposed to by
their vote……Let’s hear what the PM has to say about
One of our arch enemies….what he says may help our
Congress in their decision making re: more/less
sanctions or military action on Iran by USA….So, good
on you Mr. Spkr. for sticking to your guns on this one…
And, Welcome Mr. PM from an old American who
appreciates Israel and all that she has endured..

  • joe phillips

    You go Bibi.

  • Barry

Mr, Netanyahu’s case for making the speech is airtight.

How in the world people could focus on the political correctness of such a speech rather than the important matter that it addresses is beyond me.

The relevance is his speech far transcends any hurt feelings on the part of those who object it. Jews who object should be ashamed.

  • Robert Kesten

Netanyahu did all he could in the last US Presidential election to defeat Obama and he continues to drive a wedge between members of the Conference of Presidents, who overwhelmingly support Netanyahu (right or wrong) and the majority of American Jews who continue to vote Democratic. Even a large number of American Jews who are unhappy, even angry at Obama, when it comes to Israel-policy, are not inclined to support the conservative members of the House and Senate who are ardent supporters of Israel. This growing divide within the US Jewish community, and Netanyahu’s continuous divisive actions…including now his call for Danish Jews (and others) to leave Europe, will be a major reason that younger Jews in the US will have less of a tie to Israel than the previous generation, which is less than the one before it. Israel lives in a bad neighborhood, we all know that, but the nation still has to get its house in order and put in office a Prime Minister who truly cares about Israel and not being reelected. Israel doesn’t need a prime minister for life, it needs a prime minister who cares deeply about the nation and its future.
