Jews in Belgium have begun enrolling in a local Krav Maga class to learn self-defense, in response to the attack on a Jewish museum in Brussels last year that left four people dead, Israeli news site NRG reported on Tuesday.

Following the fatal attack at the Jewish Museum of Belgium, Zionist youth group World Betar established the courses to train Belgian Jewish youth in Israeli-style self-defense.

In addition to these courses, Betar’s newly inaugurated Belgian branch said it would conduct other activities encouraging immigration to Israel among local Jews.

The opening ceremony for the Belgian branch of Betar was attended by Betar CEO Neria Mayer, head of the World Zionist Organization’s Department for Activities in Israel and Countering Antisemitism Jacob Haguel, director of Betar in Belgium Shimon Breihart and youths affiliated with the Belgian chapter of Betar.

During the ceremony, Mayer said that the opening of the new branch was Betar’s answer to terrorism.

“We are working mainly to strengthen immigration to Israel, but the rising antisemitism in Europe is causing many Jews to want to master the art of self-defense. This is our secondary mission, to train and strengthen you, in order to ensure that the Jews of Europe never again feel helpless or frightened,” he said.

“Wherever antisemitism rears its head,” Betar will be there to confront it, Mayer said in an interview with NRG.

During the inaugural ceremony, a woman passing by on the street began shouting antisemitic slogans and making the Nazi salute in front of an Israeli flag. Betar activists quickly removed her from the vicinity of the ceremony.

A year ago, a lone gunman opened fire at the Jewish Museum of Belgium, in the country’s capital of Brussels. Three people – two Israeli victims, Emanuel and Miriam Riva, and a French woman named Dominique Sabrier – were killed at the scene. Alexandre Strens, a young employee of the museum, was critically wounded and later died of his injuries.

About a week after the attack, 29-year-old Mehdi Nemmouche, an Algerian-born French citizen, was arrested in Marseilles in connection with the shooting. A French prosecutor said Nemmouche had links to radical Islamists and had spent over a year in Syria prior to the attack. If he is charged, Nemmouche will be the first known case of a radicalized Islamist returning from Syria and carrying out a terrorist attack, according to the British Telegraph.

This is a correct and momentous start.

    The new Maccabees.

It will be interesting to see which way Christian Belgians go when Jews and Muslims go at one another.

    • The Watchman

As they did with the Nazis, they will sell out the Jews. belgium rapidly becoming an ungovernable busted flush and a prime candidate for Shariah as their stupid leftist politicians and the EU commission turn a blind eye, in the name of “inclusivity”.

Self defense classes are definitely helpful but it can years to become really good at a martial art. Its better than nothing but it requires constant work for years to be good. Beginners should not overestimate their abilities because that could lead to problems.

    • Craig

The beauty of Krav is that it’s very is easy to learn and get good at. Krav is perhaps the most effective martial art because all moves are two steps and go after vital parts of the attackers body.

If I am correct, I believe that under Belgian firearms laws, one is permitted to own a shotgun and .22 caliber rifle. If you practice regularly with the .22, you can hit a six inch target up to about 100 meters. For self defense I would use a magnum .22, hollow point round. The effective range of a shotgun is 10-15 meters using #00 shotgun shells.

Self defense is great and moving to Israel is great but what if they round us up and then one bomb and we are no more.

What good will Krav Maga training do when you are attacked by terrorists armed with high powered battlefield weapons?

    • Laurence

Would your point be that it is better not to train at all since one’s opponent might be armed?

  • Simone Miller

muslim arabs need to be returned to the countries that they came from and leave the civilized world alone.

  • The Watchman

All Jews should take out firearms licences and arm themselves as allowed by the law. A message must be sent out, that Jewish lives are VERY expensive.

  • sorry Kalashnikov is a 7, not 9 …But once the body exploded by it, it doesn’t matter so much!

    • Howard Wolf

Actually, a Kalashnikov is 7.62 mm. The bore width being equal to that of a NATO cartridge, but that’s where the similarity ends. The NATO bullet is heavier, flies faster, and reaches further.

  • Krav Maga is useless against 9mm Kalashnikov bullets…further more: what happens when one Jew kills a guy by self defense? How will he Prove it was self defense but not some usual aggressive Jewish behavior against the Poor Pious Muslim…?
Neither EU Governments nor Police are ready to give ANY self defense to anybody and any weaponry to any true Republican Citizen as there are NO 2nd Amendment in Europe but a Totalitarian Power of the Governments.
With the private guards service of US companies, I would dare to attack any Big Society or Bank for instance! Nobody would ever go out alive from such a Department…
Ask the question….? TO The dead big strong Jewish guy shot on front of a synagogue who could tell you what is to do to prevent such a fate as his own !!!!

    It’s about time.

Krav Mata and Beitar are doing a great Job. G’ bless them. Amen. That’s the next best thing to immigration.
