Dear Razia Iqbal,

I was in my car on Tuesday morning, and listening to BBC Newshour, carried by our local National Public Radio station in New York.

You were the host of the hour-long program, and the principal subject was the major deal announced, after years of negotiations, between the P5+1 and Iran.

One of your guests was Danny Danon, Israel’s Minister of Science, Technology and Space. To my astonishment, you said the following to him, referring to Israel:

“But you’re not under threat by Iran. Nobody in Iran has threatened you for a very long time. You’re harking back to a time when President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad threatened Israel directly.”

Fortunately, I managed to maintain control of my car, but only barely. More impressively still, Minister Danon did not lose his cool, though he had every right to do so.

I’m not new to media comments that go over the top, especially when it happens on the BBC in regard to Israel-related matters. Much has already been written on the topic and it’s not for me to rehash it here.

But your words were ill-informed at best, malicious at worst.

Did they reflect your view alone, or that of your employer as well?

Either way, do you truly believe that Iran poses no threat to Israel today, but rather that this was only the case during the presidency of Ahmadinejad?

If so, with respect, you’re flat-out wrong.

The threat to Israel from the Iranian government goes far beyond the menacing rhetoric of Ahmadinejad. Indeed, it both preceded and outlived him.

This is what Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the country’s top leader, has said on the subject: “This barbaric, wolf-like and infanticidal regime of Israel, which spares no crime, has no cure but to be annihilated.”

And here’s another memorable quote from the Supreme Leader: [Israel is a] “cancerous tumor that should be cut and will be cut.”

What am I missing about his blood-curdling thoughts on Israel?

And consider these unambiguous words from General Mohammad Ali Jafari, head of the all-powerful Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps: “The Zionists should prepare themselves for our shattering thunderbolt. They have experienced our rage in the past.”

No wonder U.S. President Barack Obama, in announcing the breakthrough with Iran today, said it’s high time for Tehran to stop seeking Israel’s destruction.

He wasn’t reacting to what Ahmadinejad said years ago, but to the present reality.

Meanwhile, Iran’s well-armed and well-funded proxies in the region, Hezbollah and Hamas, make no secret of their own aim of eradicating Israel.

The Hamas Charter doesn’t mince words: “Israel will exist, and will continue to exist, until Islam abolishes it…”

Not to be outdone, Hezbollah’s long-time leader, Hassan Nasrallah, declared: “If Jews all gather in Israel, it will save us the trouble of going after them worldwide.”

Dear Ms. Iqbal, if Minister Danon and other Israeli leaders voice concern about Iran, it is not because they enjoy playing the role of spoiler.

Rather, it is because history has taught them to take seriously those who threaten Jewish existence.

The Iranian regime, as a matter of the convergence of ideology and theology, does not recognize Israel’s right to exist, and champions those in the region who wish to see Israel erased from the world map.

Doesn’t a guest on your program, who may be understandably worried about the future of his country, deserve to be treated fairly, and not sanctimoniously lectured from the safety of a London studio that, “But you’re not under threat by Iran. Nobody has threatened you for a very long time”?

Shame on you for the ignorance or ill will, or both, that your remarks bespeak.

Perhaps an early opportunity, as they say in the business, to “walk your comments back” would be in order.

Why waste words on idiots like Razia Iqbal, the BBC and Brits in general? The masses are unwashed, uneducated and uninformed in any event.

  • Artie Van Derham

Iran invented the Islamic suicide attack in 1979.

  • Jarred

Did you really expect any better from this woman or from the BBC.
Razia Iqbal has form when it has anything to do with Israel Google her name and you will find a few unpleasant surprises there.

  • Writing this here is preaching to the converted, did you send a complaint to the BBC? I know sending complaints to the BBC does not change the BBC, I have sent many, many complaints to the BBC and they always skirt around my complaint with evasive answers, but I’m sure someone is taking note, even though they will NEVER admit that they are wrong or have even made a mistake. The BBC are even more infallible than the pope.

Omid Rezvan – A comprehensive report by MEMRI (Middle East Media Research Institute) warns of Iran’s accelerated preparations for a massive attack on the Jewish state.

According to the report, Iran has established substantial forces within striking distance of Israel’s border. The Iranians can call upon regional Shiite forces, including Hezbollah in Lebanon and a new Hezbollah force formed out of local Syrian militias numbering 70,000 that is made up of Syrian Alawites, Shiites and collaborating Sunnis.

However, to supplement this force, Iran has “130,000 trained Iranian Basij fighters waiting to enter Syria.”

These forces only represent the first line. Iran, with a population of over 70 million and the allegiance of regional Shiites, has enormous manpower reserves that could be mobilized in time of war.

MEMRI quotes Yahya Rahim Safavi, former IRGC commander and security affairs advisor to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who boasted in May 2014: “Our strategic depth reaches to the Mediterranean, and above Israel’s head.”

    The MEMRI report continues,

“As part of this implementation, the Syrian Golan has become an Iranian theater of operation as well. This strategic Iranian presence in the Golan was at first clandestine… but later became public, and was accompanied by open threats to target Israel from the Syrian border.”

The report identifies the arming of Palestinians in the West Bank and even sympathetic Israeli Arabs as one of the next steps.

The report does not discuss new revelations about advances in Iran’s ballistic missile program, the introduction of new fighter jets or the recent disclosure of an Iranian built submarine capable of launching ballistic missiles. Nor does it mention Iran’s ability to utilize its newly acquired strategic base in Yemen.

    The MEMRI report concludes,

“Israel faces a fateful crisis. As much as it feared the Iranian nuclear program, it never imagined that Iran would be standing on its border even before its nuclear agreement with the Americans was complete. The Iranian threat to Israel is no longer theoretical, nor does it have anything to do with Israel’s deterrent of using its nuclear weapons, which cannot be used considering the international power balance. The threat has become direct, practical and conventional.”

One conclusion that is implied, though not spelled out, is the importance to Iran of completing an agreement on its nuclear program that leaves its capability intact. With a capacity to rapidly deploy nuclear weapons, Iran could nullify any Israel threat of using unconventional weapons with one of its own.

Perfect examples of how that tiny Israel can dictate, control and impose its will on our money hungry, spineless Congressmen and Senators who are bought and paid for by the likes of Edelson and others like him. These very government officials, as a result of their being paid by these jews one way or another, and be couse of their insecurities act as if their president is this idiot Netanyahu, not Obama. They are more concerned about Israel’s safety than our American interests. at least that’s how they act while holding their noses. They have to, otherwise they will lose their jobs. that’s how jews control our policies. And it’s not only here, It’s all over Europe. England and France, to name a few. And that’s a fact!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Phil

Nate, there is only one fact that is apparent from your writing. You are a liar and an anti-Semitic and paranoid hater who would love to see Israel destroyed.

  • noanoa

BBC is filled with Crack Heads, disconnected delusional IDIOTS, who kiss Islamic asses for cash.

I would like to remind the UK about their Chamberlain who negotiated peace with Germany and how the Germans bombarded the UK.

So much for British common sense.

So go piss up a rope.

  • steven L

Is she a crypto-Islamists, ignorant, biased,UN-educated, a fool or all of the above?

  • Omid Rezvan

    Dear Author
I don’t know if you deliberately manipulate the quotes from Iranian officials or its simply because you don’t understand the Farsi language. In any case the quotes are not complete at all. For example in the case of the head of revolutionary guard quote, it starts with: in the event of an Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear facility… and then the threat goes on. Which makes it much more different than just randomly threatening Israel with annihilation. I hope you’re just misinformed.

    • steven L

Where have you been all these years?
K has repeatedly stated his intention of eliminating IL.

    • Dale K.

And the other quotes such as:
“If Jews all gather in Israel, it will save us the trouble of going after them worldwide.”
“This barbaric, wolf-like and infanticidal regime of Israel, which spares no crime, has no cure but to be annihilated.”

Are they deliberately manipulated as well?

    • Ron

      Dear Omid the Idiot

The only thing manipulated in this comment section is your brain. Unless you think that all of us are simply ignorant Jews, I would check your own credibility prior to posting this insanity. If Israel does attack one or more of Iran’s nuclear facilities, hopefully you’ll be there to inspect the damage before it occurs.

The resident Iranian spy. Well they need the Jews to steal ideas from.

  • dante

npr staffers have opinions. they don’t know much. much of what they “know” is false. many of them are not very bright. those that are bright are, for the most part, fools or are so disabled by their hatred that they cannot apply their intelligence to any issue involving Israel. smart or not, fools or not, they don’t know much. but, they have opinions.

some of them cultivate a self-righteous hateful indignation. directed at iran threatening Israel on a daily basis? oh, no, not at iran. not at iraq. not syria. not turkey. not russia. not sudan. not china. not cuba. not venezuela. not qatar. no, no, no. their hate is directed at Israel.

here’s the beauty part: listening to some clown who has never done anything in his life more consequential than ace an exam disparage and discount the concerns of the People and State of Israel, which are united in their condemnation of the iran deal. some little cretin, far removed from danger, displaying the arrogance and the temerity to impatiently interrupt the Prime Minister of Israel…that’s staggering.

  • Mike

Nobodies betrayed Israel except their leadership.

Get rid of Benny the war criminal all he’s doing is damaging Israel’s relationship with the US. This seems to be Benny’s personal fight with Obama. Obama is not against Israel, he’s just not a puppet either. Before Benny does any-more damage get rid of him and put in place a real statesmen who knows how to conduct himself. The deal is done and there no stopping it – get over it.

    • dante

imbecile. it’s obama who cultivates his little vendetta: “I know how to deal with people who oppose me.” Netanyahu could not care care less about personalities; he’s interested in policy, in the issues.

any “statesman” worthy of the title would be embarrassed to display a petty, petulant grudge and would never allow personal issues to dictate state policy. no, Netanyahu could not care about these matters. but, that’s obama’s stunted psychological realm.

as for the deal, they say that prophecy is now the domain of children and fools. while “mike” qualifies here, it’s too early for any rational observer to opine that the matter has been settled.

    • Seth Watkins

Mike, the signs of an ignoramus are his inability to spell and his inability to punctuate. And your rant demonstrates your mental deficiency.

You misspelled the first word of your rant.

You omitted a period after your second sentence and failed to capitalize the first word of the third sentence.

You used a comma instead of a period to divide your fourth sentence from your fifth sentence.

You misspelled “any more,” hyphenating those two words rather than separating them. (I guess you don’t know the difference between “anymore” and “any more.”)

You forgot the word “is” in your last sentence.

I’ll bet you can’t count past 10 with your pants on.

WRONG!! Ever read Obamas’ Cairo address?? Ever read anything by Obamas’ “advisers”? Power, Malley,Rashid Khalidi, Rice etc? They HATE Israel. Also as president he must be able to control his personal likes or dislikes. Obama also harmed, Czech Republic, Poland when he canceled the Aegis defense system while resetting with Putin. Obama sees the US as the last neo colonial power that must be punished for its evils. Obama will be racking in the speakers fees probably as the President of a university or think tank when Iran gets the bomb and he has no skin in the game

Mike, if you were a Kike you would understand. but alas you are a nobody note to the big brother police…i am using the adj. Kike to make my point as a Rabbi. this is the same as one black brother, calling another brother a “nigga” hope you understand the street language of the urban environment? not to put down but to enhance.don’t over react like a liberal goody goody clean shoes. a shoe that never stepped in crap.

  • Peter Joffe

It is staggering that the BBC in particular and a lot of the world’s media in general do not realize that Israel is simply the fist target, the USA is the second and the rest of the world is the final target for Islamic subjugation or deduction. Islam wants the whole world and that includes the UK and their stupid BBC.
