Seth Rogen to Throw Bar Mitzvah for Fellow Jewish Actor James Franco
Jewish actor Seth Rogen is throwing a bar mitzvah for fellow Jewish actor James Franco this October to fulfill his friend’s longtime desire to observe the tradition, the New York Post reported on Wednesday.
“Ever since I’ve known James, he’s been talking about wanting a bar mitzvah,” Rogen, 33, said in a statement about Franco, 37, whose mother is Jewish and father is not.
“And in celebration we’ll also have a mohel and a live bris for James at the event,” Rogen quipped, referring to the ritual circumcision of Jewish males.
The bar mitzvah will be part of Rogen and his wife Lauren’s fourth annual Hilarity for Charity variety show in Hollywood. The event will benefit the Rogens’ organization which works to “inspire change and raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease among millennials,” according to its website.
The charity’s Prom Night-themed variety show in 2014 raised nearly $1 million. Past shows have featured performances and appearances by Paul Rudd, Kevin Hart, Bruno Mars and Samuel L. Jackson, to name a few.
