A pro-Israel media watchdog says CNN changed the headline to a story about Palestinian arson at a West Bank holy site on Friday after it was contacted by the group.

The original headline, shown in the image below, stated that Joseph’s tomb had caught fire.

CAMERA responded incredulously. “OK. So Joseph’s Tomb just ‘caught fire.’ Really? How? Was it an ‘electrical fire?’ like the one that the Palestinian Authority says took place at Charbel Monastery in Bethlehem a while back?” the group asked, referring to the fire at a Bethlehem monastery last month that Church leaders blamed on Palestinian Islamists.

The nonprofit said it reached out to CNN to change the headline, which was later on Friday changed to reflect an attack.

“No, Joseph’s Tomb did not ‘catch fire.’ Palestinians set it on fire. They torched it. They set it ablaze. They initiated its combustion. It did not ‘catch’ fire. It did not spontaneously combust,” CAMERA continued, saying CNN’s reporting of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has held Israel to a “disgusting and dishonest double standard.”

Meanwhile, Abbas on Friday condemned the torching of Joseph’s tomb, which is a heavily guarded holy site in Shechem (known to Palestinians as Nablus) already destroyed once along with an attached yeshiva by Palestinians during the Second Intifada in 2000. The PA president also called on Palestinian law enforcement to investigate the fire.

According to Israel’s IDF news station, about ten Palestinians approached the site late Thursday night and threw homemade firebombs at the facilities. Palestinian police responded first, taking control of the blaze before Israeli soldiers arrived early Friday morning. On Friday, the local Israeli civil authorities released footage of the site on fire.

The IDF announced it took the incident “very seriously” and would work to bring the arsonists to justice.

  • Shame on you ,CNN- you just don’t learn to be honest. Time and time again we have to catch you being biased and dishonest.

  • Judy Silver-Shapiro

CNN is one of the most ANTI ISRAEL-ANTI JEWISH news media outlets, and has been for years. So-called JEWISH anchor, son of HOLOCAUST survivors, wolf blitzer,is one of the worst, and Jake Tapper has not been much better this past several weeks. Their ISRAEL correspondent, one Ben wedemon should NOT be allowed to be in ISRAEL, let alone broadcast from there.
What more can one expect from Jane Fonda’s ex-ted turner?!?

  • The “corrected” headlines on CNN:

“West Bank holy place burned.” It doesn’t say Joseph’s Tomb, a Jewish holy place, burned by Palestinians.

  • Dave

I watch CNN regularly and I have to say that they try to be neutral on the Israeli -Palestinian question…until violence breaks out between the parties. Then they lose any semblance of fairness and switch to one-sided reporting, namely taking the Palestinian point of view.

  • Paul Lockwood

CNN does not care what the truth is — they report news based upon their political leanings, which in my view are anti-police, anti-Israel, anti-American.

CNN will change the weather report to what people want to hear, not what the weather actually is.

    TRUMP is correct about them.

Abbas can’t have it both ways. He stokes the fire literally and figuratively. Maybe he sent the torch bearers so he can sound heroic later. He’s calling for death if Jews, elimination of Israel, celebrates the terrorists, now claims the western wall is part of Al Aqsa mosque. He’s treacherous and deceitful. There’s no way he cares about Jewish historic or holy sites nor will he end the intifada he’s creating. Not without some heinous claims and more blood letting. Why doesn’t Israel lock hi up and all Fatah false leaders?

  • CGG

CNN. BBC. It’s all the same chazerai.

Where are Obama/Kerry or even Hillary to condemn this act?? If a Jew graffitied a mosque we would hear Obama/Kerry, Hillary screaming that the act was an impediment to peace, as Hillary did as Sec State. When the arabs BURN a Jewish holy site there is silence. There is blood on Obama/Kerry and Hillarys’ hands.
