Former chairman of the BBC Trust, Lord Michael Grade, criticized the broadcaster for misleading viewers in its coverage of the latest round of Palestinian-Israeli violence, the U.K. Jewish Chronicle reported.

Grade issued his grievances to the corporation’s director of news and current affairs, James Harding, in a letter, following a report by correspondent Orla Guerin on Sunday covering the latest terrorist attacks against Israelis, as well as ongoing clashes between Palestinian demonstrators and Israeli security forces.

He said Sunday’s report failed to show a “wide context” that would have raised viewers awareness and understanding of an “undoubtedly complex issue.”

Grade said he was disturbed by what appeared to be implied “equivalence between Israeli victims of terrorism and Palestinians who have been killed by Israeli security forces in the act of carrying out terror attacks,” according to the JC.

He was upset the BBC had not shown footage of Palestinian Authority leaders praising the string of recent lone-wolf attacks against Israelis, which have left eight Israelis dead.

Deputy Secretary-General of Fatah’s Central Committee Jibril Rajoub, for example, recently glorified such attacks as “heroic” and based in the preservation of certain “values.”

Grade also took offense to the correspondent failing to interview Israeli victims of a recent terror attack while talking with the emotional father of the Palestinian perpetrator who had been shot dead.

“Additionally, it was improper of the correspondent to claim that ‘there’s no sign of involvement by militant groups’, before immediately showing footage of Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) banners at the home of a 19-year-old terrorist who carried out a deadly knife attack at Lion’s Gate in Jerusalem on October 3. PIJ is a well-known Palestinian terror organisation and it has since claimed responsibility for the attack and been praised by Hamas, another internationally proscribed terror organisation. This directly misleads viewers,” he wrote, according to the JC.

The former BBC Trust chairman’s jeremiad came a few weeks after Israel censured the BBC over a a headline that made the focus of a story the death of a Palestinian terrorist who was shot by police in Jerusalem after he killed two Israeli civilians. It read: “Palestinian shot dead after Jerusalem attack claims two.” BBC later changed the headline.

Very impressed with the comments above, especially Draiman. Yet, we all forget that the Arab claims are based on the s0-called “right of return.” That claim has absolutely no merit as history has already established. Let us not forget that the Arab countries created in the early 1900’s deported all of its almost 1 million Jews, confiscating their property, possessions and businesses, and also committed acts of barbarism as they conducted pograms, which often caused death to those of the Jewish culture. Ever since there has never been an offer of return available to those deported Jewish citizens of the Arab countries. Therefore no such right should be available to the so-called “Palestinians.”
Furthermore, as observed in the commentaries above, Arab leaders and their Mullahs are preaching and teaching active and offensive Jihad against all non-Muslims, especially with severe anti-Semitic overtones. With those of the Islamic culture acting out the preached violence, I believe that Israel ought to determine what its defensible borders are, and simply take what is necessary for its protection, while simultaneously deporting the “Palestinians.” Since the Jewish leaders are more fair minded than how the Arab world previously treated their Jewish civilians then living in the Arab countries from which they were deported, I can see a fair payment being offered by Israel to those Arabs who are deported. To me, that would bring some more protection to its people, though nothing can quell the hatred that world dominating Islam has against the non-Muslim people of the world. Hopefully, with what Europe is now facing from the scourge of Islamic “refugees,” our world leaders will now recognize and accept the dangers they face.

Shame on him IF he did not DO or and SAY anything b4 becoming EX!
BBC is repleted with Neo-Orientalist and antisemitic LOSERS. They can’t digest the expulsion of “her majesty” from the hands of this DEFENSELESS people!!!!
Like their brothers the Muslims, for they are incapable of emulating Jews, they have one option: calumny, jealousy and destruction.

These MSM gov mafia propaganda outlets have proven time again to have infinite malice and ZERO credibility. There’s nothing different about BBC’s propaganda regards Israel vs other subjects. It’s all nothing but propaganda lies and false holographic narratives to stir up conflict. People need to just turn that sh!t off. When nobody pays them any attention these lying murderous blood vultures will go bankrupt and disappear.

I am pleased that someone in a position of some authority and/or repute is in favor of truthful reporting.

    • Robert Thompson

      Used to be in authority.
And, considering BBC’s long history of obfuscation when it comes to reporting the news regarding Israeli/Gazan relations, I have to wonder what he did about it when he was there.

We use to watch BBC…..and the words “use to” will not change! Disgusted, disappointed and outraged describes how we feel about CNN, BBC, MSNBC, NBC, CBS and ABC. Our belief of “NEVER AGAIN”….will not allow us to follow slanted and bias news as people did during Hitler’s regin in the 30’s and early to mid 40’s.

  • But Lord Grade is a Jew, so it will be ignored. It is time for the BBC to make the Ballen report public.

  • Theo

The BBC is an openly biased mouthpiece
It’s style of reporting evidences a deep scorn and hatred of Israel and its people
It’s presentation of news of Israel is shameless

  • The Consequences of Appeasement
The decisions made by the government of Israel since The six day war of 1967 leading up to Gaza war with Hamas July 2014, as well as those of the first ten months or so after the turnover of Gaza in 2004 began, have dumbfounded historians ever since.
The PA leader makes a speech in front of the UN and announces that the Oslo Accord is no longer applicable and that he is not going to abide by its terms. Thereafter, Arab terror and violence, car ramming, knifing, stone throwing and every conceivable method of disturbance and destabilization is being applied.
The current Arab terror and violence facing the people of Israel, and the Arab claim to forbid Jews from Temple Mount, is a product of restraint to Arab violence and the concern what world reaction would be, while sacrificing Jewish lives, and diminishing the safety and security of Israel and its people.
The appeasement of Israel to the Arabs-Palestinians, in particular, has been so often held up as an example of how not to deal with a rising terrorism and violence that it has become a stereotype.
Had Israel stood its ground and responded to terrorism or any violence with utmost force. Israel would not be facing today’s crisis.
As many have said – appeasement, concessions and lack of proper response to terrorism is detrimental to Israel its people and the Jewish people worldwide.
Israel under International Law has the right to build and live in Judea and Samaria and any other territory formerly within the boundary of Palestine. As decried by the San Remo agreement, confirmed by the treaty of Sevres and Lausanne; of which terms are survived in perpetuity. Any deviation or prohibition is outright discrimination against Israel and the Jewish people. As past history has proven, concessions by Israel have only increased violence and terrorism.
Israel is an independent democratic sovereign country and it must operate and run the country without being dictated how to run the country and outside interference, just like the U.S. and other countries.
It is time for Israel to respond with extreme force to quell terrorism, violence and rioting – no holds barred, zero tolerance.
Israel should inform all Arab leaders in greater Israel that if terror and violence continues they will hold them responsible and they will bear the consequences.
What the Arabs could not win in loosing four major wars against Israel, they won in playing the peace game. The Arabs all the while are building up arsenals and educating their children to hate, commit terror and violence and to destroy Israel. While enriching; their own personal pockets with the billions contributed by the world to help the impoverished Arab-Palestinian. The G7 and other nations want Arab Oil and for that, they will do anything! The end result ignoring reality will destroy them also.
What a scheme – and the gullible delusional world is buying it hook line and sinker.
When will the World at large learn that the Arab-Muslims cannot be trusted; they consider all non-believers as their enemies. I hope the world takes of the blinders, before the Arab-Muslims take over Europe and than the United States and Canada, etc.
I wonder, how come the nations of the world; No one is questioning the 21 Arab States established after WWI with over 5 million square miles of territory, including Jordan’s sovereignty, a country that never existed in history before WWI and which was established in violation of international law and treaties, on land originally allocated to the Jewish people in 1920, which included all of Palestine’s 75,000 square miles of which 80% was illegally reallocated to Arab Jordan. If you question Israel’s rights and territory you might as well question the sovereignty and territory of the other 21 Arab States set up at the same time by the same Supreme Allied Powers that set up the Jewish State.
    YJ Draiman

Well said-The world is almost totally turned upside down-morally.A greater hand is playing the cards.Hold on-it’s going to be a hell of a ride.

Excellent remarks with good historical perspective, great intelligence and rationality. I only wish that people would learn the facts and not be driven by hysterical anti-Semitism. The consequences of appeasement are visible and whatever Israel does, it will be vilified by the rest of the world. Understanding that, however, engenders the need for Israel to take swift and final action because they will be sanctioned regardless. Your comments were much appreciated.

The misleading is more than a mistake. It follows a tradition of dehumanizing Jews. The Israeli victims and their relatives are not interviewed in order to show them as suffering individuals whereas the Arabyan is shown so as if he were the victim in this case.

  • James Hay

It is Most Certainly Nice To See At Least There Is Someone In Europe Who Has The Courage To Speak Up Against The Israel Haters In The News Media. Hasn’t Europe’s Cup Of Iniquity Yet Filled When It Comes To The Jews? Killing Over 6 Million Jews Wasn’t Enough For You Cretins?
