JNS.org – The legend of the over-the-top bar mitzvah reached new heights Saturday when former Disney star turned provocateur pop star Miley Cyrus, known for her skimpy outfits and open drug use, was the focus of a bar mitzvah charity event at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles.
The bar mitzvah celebration, honoring 37-year-old actor James Franco, who despite being Jewish never experienced the coming of age ceremony, doubled as a charity event that ultimately raised more than $2 million for Alzheimer’s patients.
But the star of the bar mitzvah was Cyrus, who donned a shiny blue thong leotard and Star of David accessories and pranced on stage with a golden cape that said “Shalom Y’all” on the back. She performed her hits and ultimately invited the guests to dance on stage with her, as they would in any other, kosher bar mitzvah celebration.
Veteran actor Jeff Goldblum also played a role at the bar mitzvah, playing the part of the rabbi.
After the event, Cyrus posted pictures to Instagram, including one of her posing with a giant Star of David that she had used as a prop during her performance. Alongside comments professing love for the singer and praising the initiative, the singer drew a string of hateful anti-Semitic, pro-Palestinian responses like “Muslims gonna enjoy seeing u guys burning in hell and crying” and “Free Palestine.”
