Italian officials declined to comment after being ridiculed this week for covering up the ancient nude statues in Rome’s Capitoline Museums, so as not to offend the sensibilities of a visiting foreign dignitary.

The delicate world leader in question was Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who took a four-day trip to Italy and France to seal some business deals in the wake of the lifting of nuclear sanctions.

But being shielded from naked marble wasn’t the funniest, or even most pathetic, part of Rouhani’s trip to the City of Seven Hills. Far worse was his reception at the Vatican, where Pope Francis fawned all over the puppet head of the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei-led regime, directly and indirectly responsible for the slaughter of Christians across the world.

The father of the Catholic Church nevertheless greeted “His Excellency Hassan Rouhani, president of the Islamic Republic of Iran” as though he were a fellow pacifist, ready, willing and able not only to spread a global message of brotherly love, but to carry it out. According to a statement from the Vatican after the meeting, the two held “cordial discussions” in which “common spiritual values emerged.”

The talks concluded with the “important role that Iran is called upon to fulfill, along with other countries in the region, to promote suitable political solutions to the problems afflicting the Middle East, to counter the spread of terrorism and arms trafficking. In this respect, the parties highlighted the importance of interreligious dialogue and the responsibility of religious communities in promoting reconciliation, tolerance and peace.”

It is not clear whether the pope is delusional or an idiot. Either way, his moral authority — already shaky where asserting the evils of radical Islam is concerned — ought to be completely revoked. To view Rouhani as someone with shared values who will act to combat terrorism and arms trafficking is to make a mockery of goodness.

It is one thing to have supported the nuclear deal, as the pope did; this simply puts him in good international company. It is quite another, however, to consider it a kind of miraculous, transformative cure for the ills of a regime that oppresses its own people and equips others with the money, tools and training to commit mass murder on its behalf.

Indeed, while Francis and Hassan were chumming it up on Tuesday, Iranian generals and admirals continued to boast about the progress they have been making in nuclear activities as a result of their deal with the West, while conducting drills to test long-range missiles and sophisticated radar systems.

On Wednesday, International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Rouhani’s master, Khamenei, aired a video he produced denying the Holocaust and attacking America and Europe. The video, called “Are the Dark Ages Over,” shows pictures of wounded and dead Palestinians with narration (ostensibly by Khamenei himself) that includes such gems as: “It is Western powers headed by America that are [behind Israel’s perpetration of the bloodshed]. This is while they say in their slogans that they are opposed to terrorism.”

This is not new. Khamenei has long been as much of a Holocaust denier as a hater of the West, particularly the United States. He also openly accuses the US and Israel of having created the Islamic State group — the Sunni organization that challenges his rule over the caliphate they both want to impose on the world.

About this, and about the Holocaust-denial cartoon contest that is to take place in Tehran in June, the pope had nothing to say. Nor did anyone mention the fact that the winner of this competition will be awarded $50,000. That’s a lot of cash in a place like Iran, where the populace is in dire straits. You know, due to the fact that all of the country’s intellectual and other capital is invested in building precise weapons of mass destruction.

At the end of their warm encounter, before Rouhani asked the pope to pray for him, the two exchanged gifts. Rouhani gave the pope a Persian rug and a book of Iranian art; the pope gave Rouhani a medal showing Saint Martin offering his cloak to a shivering man, signifying brotherhood.

Rouhani chuckled when confronted by reporters about the “cloaks” placed on the statues. But we know what the true source of his amusement was: his having managed to pull the wool over the pontiff’s eyes.

The Pope is the leader of the Catholic church. So one of his missions is to protect Christians from harm throughout the world. My mother had an old saying that many of you may have heard, “You catch more flies with sugar than with vinegar.” Obviously there are cases where this doesn’t apply. But the Pope is trying to appeal to Rouhani’s better instincts(if he has any.) The Pope is a friend to our people and to Israel. The author of this article certainly has a right to disagree with his actions but to insult him by calling him an “delusional” or an “idiot” is not appropriate.

For quite a number of Roman Catholics, this pope lost his moral authority some time ago, when he stayed silent on great Catholic moral teachings during critical moments, while his appointed lieutenants in the field actively undermined them. He traded moral leadership for politics. What you’re seeing now is just more of the same.

  • Rouhani asked the Hebrew man to pray for him as the pope did said that every Christian has a Jew soul in him, let pray with our souls for Rouhani, then Rouhani will became aware of been a chameleon. not been concern what the pope did say not long time ego. What a world of religious insanity

  • Steven Richardson

I thought this new Pope was going to be more intellectually enlightened. Same old antisemitic church as always.

For all his talking about love and peace, why doesn’t he talk about Jesus the JEWISH Rabbi. Shouldn’t he love the Jews as Jesus’s people. Jesus had nothing to do with the religion contrived of long after his death. He was a Jew. If he awakened tomorrow, he would be a Jew. ISIS would slaughter him. The world would hate him. Nothing has changed.

The Pope is a disappointment. He has really sold himself out now by kissing the ring of Khomeini.

In a certain way, the world doesn’t deserve the Jews. They are too intelligent, and too committed to Tikun Olam.

      Thank you Steven Richardson.

Just sickening. These world leaders, for the most part, are such phonies. They have all lost their moral compass, if they ever had one.

I’m beginning to understand how the holocaust was able to be perpetrated in the first place: feckless, self-serving world leaders. They stand for nothing. Certainly not for the good of the world. They congratulate themselves and give medals to themselves, for as little as having a meeting, for making deals for their own legacy while the world spins out of control.

Why is it that the West must change its behavior and dress for the “culture” if you want to call the denigration of woman and non-muslims a culture, but they have no concern for the culture of the West.

Why should our women have to cover their heads in our country because of the backward beliefs of muslim men. Our women are not ashamed of being women and certainly not ashamed of standing face to face with a man. Why don’t muslim men cover there own faces if they don’t want to see a woman. Let the men stay home if they cannot bare the modern world of gender equality.

Really incredible ..the world is aligning “for” and “against” Israel , just like it was said it will happen. I personally would not want to be in the “against” camp

Tibet is occupied by China. Tibetans don’t put bombs in Chinaor go about stabbing Chinese civilians. The Dalai Lama preachers peace But is shunned by most of the world leaders
The sec general of UNO criticises Israel, but not the stabbing of civilians by Palestinians.
Iran preachers hate and manufactures W of MD and is now accepted by the world body
Encourages terrorism and is entertained by the Pope
Until Germany attacked Poland in 1939 the Nazis were accepted everywhere ,Roosevelt was ‘ passive , Americans supplied money and steel, most Baltic countries were their friend, and during the war most European countries did a lot of their dirty work or just collaborated.
In the end Germany was punished, but the collaborators got off free
The weather all over the world has gone mad Well maybe its a message from “above”
Difficult to be an Agnostic. When will we listen

  • Susan

Ruthie you have nailed it once again!

  • Mickey Oberman

Could this be the emergence of a sickness that has been preached for centuries and is still carried by many Catholics – Anti Semitism?
Consider the Irish, the French and, unexpectedly, the Italians and a number of others.

  • The pope is a fool to praise &honor a man who has killed more christians than isis.he wants to kill us too how dumb he and obama &
    John kerry are

  • JEAN

Many Catholics are very wary of Pope Francis. He could be one of the moles planted by Moscow. This “planting” started in the 1930s and has continued to this day.
In the early 1950s, Mrs. Bella Dodd provided detailed explanations of the Communist subversion of the Church. Speaking as a former high ranking official of the American Communist Party, Mrs. Dodd said: “In the 1930s we put eleven hundred men into the priesthood in order to destroy the Church from within.” The idea was for these men to be ordained and progress to positions of influence and authority as Monsignors and Bishops. She stated that: “Right now they are in the highest places in the Church” — where they were working to bring about change in order to weaken the Church’s effectiveness against Communism. She also said that these changes would be so drastic that “you will not recognise the Catholic Church.” Dodd gave testimony on communist infiltration of Church and state before the House UnAmerican Activities Committee in the 1950s.

His Holiness is both an idiot and delusional.

  • Lawrence

If you think about it, there are indeed “shared spiritual values” between the Catholic Church and Islam/Muslim radicalism. Namely Jew-hatred, Jew-baiting and scapegoating the Jews. So the Pope is not wrong.

  • The Pope is neither delusional nor an idiot, but he was told to toe the line by the Italian Government and possibly the EU because Italian and European jobs are at stake. Just because he is the head of the Vatican, it doesn’t mean money isn’t important. The Vatican is one of the richest organisations in the history of mankind.

  • Paddy

Ruthie needs a little truthie; blum will think it glum.

The Vatican is a “nation” with wide spread diplomatic contacts given its 1.5 BILLION membership, give or take. It’s not the Pope’s job to disarm Persia. As the Vicar of Christ, he’s spreading Pax Domine and opens his door to all who seek his counsel.

The Pope well knows that some 5 million victims of the Holocaust were Christians out of the 11 million sacrificed to paganism. The Nazis are gone ( with help from Pius XII), now the God-less Marxists must be eradicated with their love of murdering the unborn. The journey continues, the battle never ends against Evil.

  • Peter Joffe

Consort with terrorists and soon the Pope will be leading another crusade again the Jews and Israel. Eat at the same table as a Muslim fanatic and soon you will be poisoned.

  • Martin

    Welcome Rouhani to America!

  • John Cohen

This wont be the first time that the Pope has erred, (not just erred but a major mistake) and you’ve written it so well Ruthie. This disgusting mistake has given the world’s leading export of terrorism legitimacy. It’s condoned extremist muslims’ behavior. It’s okayed hate and the denying of the Holocaust. The Pope is not only delusional and stupid. He’s shown that he’s not fit to head the Catholic Church. To put is as kindly as I can, his behavior is, was and probably will be again in ther future, DISGUSTING.

The Catholic church has never been a friend of the Jews.
We must never forget the Spanish inquistions, where Jews were forced to convry to Catholic, or else die by being burt at the stake.

Dont forget what poep Pius did during WW2.He did not help Jews from being slaughtered by the Nazis/ He refused to recognize Jerusalem as the biblical capitol of the Jews.
Noting surprises me of the Catholic anti Semitism

Sure, there were hundreds of Nuns and priests who help sav Jeish live.

And to cover up all the nude statues because it “offends” the Muslims whow what an absolute arsehole this Poep is.

  • The real and true reason why the statutes have been shielded is, that otherwise His Excellency Hassan Rouhani, president of the Islamic Republic of Iran and his entourage would have raped them.

  • Rich

“You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.”

  • Vere

This criticism by Blum is fair.

I hope, in the future, the Vatican thinks twice before cuddling with mass-murderers of Christians and Jews.

  • ART

    Despicable money grubbing EU.
I had expected better from the pope, he should know that grovelling only endangers his flock

  • Clea belcher

Who is the Pope kidding concerning the “important role” Iran is to fulfill? He seems to have much more in common with Iran than Israel. Tolerance, reconciliation, peace, arms control? The Pope will save his iron fist for Israel. No tolerance there.

  • Being a practicing Catholic, I have no compunction in asserting that this Pope is a disgrace, a left-leaning neo-Marxist ideologue. As in the past, good Catholics will survive this…unconventional…Pope, as will the Church.

His vacuity is not only embarrassing; it is dangerous.

  • “…It is not clear whether the pope is delusional or an idiot….”

When the consequences of stupidity become indistinguishable from the consequences of malice, it is wiser and safer to assume malice.

  • Chris Rettenmoser

The Pope is an idiot and an enemy of Israel !

    • Alexander Scheiner, Israel

I agree with you, hat the Pope Franz’l is our enemy. No wonder, the whole Vatikan is an enemy of Israel.

I disagree, an idiot he is not. He is a clever man and knows what he is doing.

  • Linda Bee

I have said since day one that this is a FALSE POPE. The evidence mounts daily to prove that. He is not a true pope, but a new puppet for the NWO.
