The United States and Israel have been conducting a massive joint military exercise over the past few weeks, to enhance military cooperation between the IDF and the US Army, the Hebrew news site nrg reported on Thursday.
Juniper Cobra 16, as the exercise is called — conducted between the Israel Air Force and US Army troops — will culminate next week in the first-ever joint testing of the David’s Sling missile-interceptor system, developed by Israeli defense contractor Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and American defense contractor Raytheon.
David’s Sling, also known as “Magic Wand,” is designed to intercept medium-to-long-range rockets and cruise missiles.
On the heels of, and related to, Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah’s recent threats to attack ammonia facilities in Israel’s northern city of Haifa, the exercise is focusing on aerial and ballistic-missile defense.
