JNS.org – Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) defeated Hillary Clinton in the Wisconsin primary election on Tuesday, while Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) topped businessman Donald Trump in that state’s Republican primary.
“With our victory tonight in Wisconsin, we have now won seven out of eight of the last caucuses and primaries,” Sanders said in his victory speech. He is also expected to win the Wyoming Democratic caucuses on Saturday.
Sanders’s win in Wisconsin comes a day after he said in an interview with the New York Daily News editorial board that Israel launched “indiscriminate” attacks against the residents of Gaza in 2014, while inflating the number of Palestinian civilian deaths during that summer’s war between Israel and the Hamas terror group at least sevenfold.
“Anybody help me out here, because I don’t remember the figures, but my recollection is over 10,000 innocent people were killed in Gaza. Does that sound right?” Sanders said. The United Nations estimates that 1,462 Palestinian civilians were killed during the Gaza war, while the Israeli government pegs that figure at 1,190.
Following Cruz’s victory in Wisconsin, the Christian Zionist organization Proclaiming Justice to the Nations (PJTN) released a video of the senator’s father, Pastor Rafael Cruz, telling a PJTN gala dinner in February that the “foundation of America and the American Constitution was the Torah.” At the event in Tennessee, Rafael Cruz called his son the “strongest supporter of Israel on Capitol Hill” and vowed that as president, Ted Cruz would both “continue to support Israel unconditionally” and “not fund the United Nations until they stop supporting BDS (the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against Israel) and anti-Semitism.”
Despite Tuesday’s Wisconsin primary victories by Sanders and Cruz, Clinton and Trump continue to lead their respective parties’ delegate counts.
