US State Department Spokesman John Kirby. Photo: C-Span/Screenshot. – The US State Department on Wednesday expressed concern over Israel’s plans to build over the pre-1967 Green Line, including 323 housing units eastern Jerusalem and 770 housing units in Gilo, a Jewish neighborhood southwest of Jerusalem.

“We strongly oppose settlement activity, which is corrosive to the cause of peace. These steps by Israeli authorities are the latest examples of what appears to be a steady acceleration of settlement activity that is systematically undermining the prospects for a two- state solution,” said State Department spokesman John Kirby.

Kirby pointed to reports of more plans for building in other Jewish communities including Ma’ale Adumim, Har Homa, Ramot, Pisgat Ze’ev and Kiryat Arba.

“We are also concerned about recent increased demolitions of Palestinian structures in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which reportedly have left dozens of Palestinians homeless, including children.‎  More than 650 Palestinian structures have been demolished this year, with more Palestinian structures demolished in the West Bank and East Jerusalem thus far than in all of 2015,” Kirby added.

Kirby also referred to the recent Middle East Quartet report that claims Israel’s current plans for building housing units is part of an “ongoing process of land seizures, settlement expansion, legalizations of outposts, and denial of Palestinian development” that would result in a “one-state reality of perpetual occupation and conflict.”

“We remain troubled that Israel continues this pattern of provocative and counterproductive action, which raises serious questions about Israel’s ultimate commitment to a peaceful, negotiated settlement with the Palestinians.”

Yes, Kirby, and the children of terrorists are homeless. Don’t do the crime, and your kids be in the street. Why are you defending terrorists but cryin tears when the terrs are punished?

  • the burlesque at State is a depressing reminder of what Churchill called the “confirmed unteachability of mankind.” it might not exactly be “unteachability,” but it is a vulnerability to error which, when combined with careerism and narcissistic dedication to self, can be disastrous. and, they never take responsibility for anything; they just fade into academic or business careers, lobbying, consulting, or what passes, these days, for journalism.

the clowns of State take themselves so seriously and they have opinions, but they don’t know anything. remember ben rhodes on the White House press corps? he could have been talking about the clowns at State.

State has always been an association of arabists. Jews building in Judea isn’t corrosive, but arabs murdering innocents certainly is.

Isn’t it interesting that the state dept. doesn’t mention the fact that the “palestinian homes destroyed were built illegally? Judea and Samaria are not occupied it is disputed territory so building is permitted. The State Dept. is disgusting.

Anything Israel does that will affect it positively, enhance its industrial and technological base, expand or further its relationships with other countries or expand its settlements will be corrosive to this state department which is under the control of a radical Islamic terrorist and an Iranian nitwit who are attempting to destroy the entire planet….they are the corrosive element along with this military minion who will say anything to keep his pension and position. What he does not realize is everyone knows he’s is a nut working for a lunatic. He evidently thinks he is still living in a world who is still suffering from the delusion that Obama walks on water and is the coming messia what he doesn’t realize is that the whole planet knows he is the anti Christ and Hillary is the harlot of revelation. So who gives a hoot about what he says. This stupid general is nothing but a court jester and a damn poor one. But he does keep parroting Obamas position and we all know what that is….kill all the Jews, destroy Israel, kill the infidels and slaughter the Christians wherever you find them…we must have this world in such a star of turmoil that if Trump gets in office there will be no way to salvage it.

Communities within a city should not be referred to as settlements. Nevertheless, more housing open to Arabs within the city is necessary and will deflect criticism. Israel must support the Arab sector in an equal way.
