JNS.org – In Turkey, a knife-wielding man, who attempted to attack a police officer, tried entering the Israeli embassy when he was shot in the leg by Turkish security officials on Wednesday.
No Israeli staff at the embassy in the capital of Ankara were involved or hurt in the incident, Israel’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon said.
The 41-year-old attacker was shouting “Allahu akbar” (God is great) as he approached the embassy, ignoring police warnings to stop before he was shot, Turkish police told Reuters.
The area outside the embassy was cordoned off as police examined the suspect’s bag for any explosive device.
The incident comes after Israel and Turkey reached a reconciliation deal to normalize relations after a six-year rift.
