JNS.org – Police and security forces will be on high alert in Jerusalem and throughout Israel over the Yom Kippur holiday just days after a deadly terror attack killed two and wounded four.
According to Israel Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld, roughly 4,000 officers will be available to monitor the security situation, as thousands of visitors are expected to gather at the Western Wall over the holiday.
“Overall general security assessments have been made across Israel, with an emphasis on all public areas, such as synagogues, central bus and train stations and the Old City,” Rosenfeld said, the Jerusalem Post reported. “At the same time, during the festivals themselves, we’re having more than 3,500 officers in Jerusalem carry out security measures, with an emphasis on the Old City, where we’re expecting thousands of people to arrive to go to the Western Wall Tuesday and Wednesday.”
Additionally, Rosenfeld said, elite border, counter-terrorism, patrol and undercover units will be stationed in the capital. He added that security in Israel will remain high throughout the holiday period, through Sukkot.
