‘Donald Trump Attended My Wife’s Funeral, Shiva,’ Says Patriots Owner Bob Kraft of Relationship With the President
by Shiryn Ghermezian
New England Patriots owner Robert “Bob” Kraft shared some details about his close friendship with President Donald Trump on Monday, noting that the president was there for him after his wife of 48 years died of cancer in 2011.
In an interview with the New York Daily News during Media Day for Super Bowl 2017, Kraft — a longtime donor to Democratic campaigns, who has been criticized for showing support for Trump and attending the president’s inauguration earlier this month — said that when Myra Kraft, a well-known philanthropist and pro-Israel activist — died, the Trumps attended her funeral at Temple Emanuel in Newton, Mass. They also visited the Kraft home during the shiva, a traditional week-long mourning period.
Kraft added, “Then [Donald] called me once a week for the whole year, the most depressing year of my life when I was down and out. He called me every week to see how I was doing, invited me to things, tried to lift my spirits. He was one of five or six people that were like that. I remember that.”
The Krafts also attended Trump’s wedding to Melania in 2005, and Trump often sat with Kraft during football games in the owner’s suite at Gillette Stadium, the home of the Patriots.
