The Jewish actor who plays David Rosen in the hit ABC series “Scandal” was called a “Jew rat,” “Kike” and “Jew fa**ot” on Twitter Sunday night for cursing out director Mel Gibson, whose latest film took home two wins at the 2017 Academy Awards.

Joshua Malina became the target of the social media onslaught after tweeting, “F*** Mel Gibson” when “Hacksaw Ridge,” directed by the latter — who is infamous for launching into an antisemitic rant in 2006 when stopped for drunk driving in LA — won Film Editing and Sound Mixing Oscars.

One Gibson fan told Malina that he should keep “art and ideology” separate, to which the actor replied, “That’s why I tweeted ‘F*** Mel Gibson’ rather than ‘F*** Hacksaw Ridge.'”

Another Twitter user admonished Malina saying that, as a Jew, he “should have a better sense of forgiveness.”

Malina responded, “I don’t need Jew lessons from you, thanks. The problem is that you are more concerned about my use of the word ‘f***’ than misogyny, homophobia, abuse, racism and antisemitism.”

Thanks. That’s what I meant, “measure for measure” as the Bard put it.

  • davideisenstadt

the talmud teaches that if one is asked to forgive three times, that one should forgive.
I might add, that I think one forgives for one’s own benefit;anger poisons the soul.

  • Dvirah Talbi

Agree, Malina should have known better. Bad language never solved anything.

  • Charl Eton

No one is turning that show on to watch Malina. Plenty refuse to watch because of Malina. He’s a loser.

  • Marashir Khan

We complain when Jews don’t stand up for themselves & complain when they do.

In what possible sense was Molina “standing up for” himself? He engaged in an obscene tirade against someone that he almost certainly doesn’t know because that person won something. Molina’s actions are entirely worthy of condemnation on their own. That he was harassed as a Jew does not make him retroactively justified in an earlier act of petty vindictiveness.

    Believe it .

Who can be bothered anymore with the childish rantings of the anti- semites of the world ,God will deal with them FAR more effectively than we could dream of

  • jobacon

Mel Gibson is almost a philosemite compared to Ken Loach, an ultra-left wing movie producer and director, whose movies are extremely samey (working class people despised and bullied by upper class people) and yet who gets massive plaudits in the UK. No doubt they want to score brownie points with him and his fellow Jew-haters, people with whom he is very close, such as Jeremy Corbyn and Jeremy Corbyn’s spin doctor, Seamus Milne, another public-school communist.

  • Pinchas Baram

gibson’s fervor for Jesus and negative view of Jews have not been in the news for several years or more. why is malina starting up with gibson now? if malina says something insulting, gibson, or a fan, will react, naturally, and throw an insult back. so i have no sympathy for malina and i certainly don’t see this item as a new case of antisemitism in America– which however it will probably be regarded as, by the statisticians at ADL…

  • Charl Eton

Malina is a loser. If he had a career, it would be going downhill now.

  • Murray

    F**k Mel Gibson!

  • 12danny

There is something wrong with him.

  • Michael Friedman

What a douche, Joshua Malina is. I’m sure he’s lived a perfect, sin free life. And I’m sure he knows what it’s like to battle substance abuse. I make no excuses for Mel Gibson’s sins, but when someone has turned their life around and asked for forgiveness, who the hell is Joshua Malina to say “F you! Sorry! Apology not accepted!!” I hope that if Joshua ever runs into Mel at an event that he has the courage to approach Mel and express the same feelings he did last night behind his computer.

  • Cynthiackc

Thank you Joshua Malina! you are my new hero! I speak as a fellow Jew when I say that ‘you did us proud!’ there should be more Jews such as you who have the guts to speak out against Mel Gibson and the too many who have been allowed to ‘get-away’ with their vile anti-semitic, and Israel rants.

  • Howard Kahan

As a Jew I am embarrassed by this twit . I am sure he does not have the Balls to tell Gibson to his face, what he tweets from his bathroom. Gibson is an Anti-Semite, but he beats the hell out of this piece of s–t when it comes to talent. I am sure that this thing is trying to make a name for himself, and I think he is successful. The name is not worth repeating.

  • Brooklyn Ave.

RIGHT ON… Josh….although I did see Hacksaw Ridge…it was FREE on-line…. I wouldn’t pay a cent for anything gibson was involved in!!!….his tweeters seem to share something in common with our prez’s tweeters…huh???

  • allioops

    good for him!

  • Enufizenuf

Sorry, but it’s people like Malina, or Larry David, or Al Franken, Chuck Schumer or Anthony Weiner, who have a self-righteous chip on their shoulders about being Jewish and yet they think it’s fine for them to degrade anyone else that are the problem. Did it ever occur to anyone that the worst possible representatives of the American Jewish community to other actors or the rest of the country are the snide, know it all, not terribly talented loudmouths in charge of much of American entertainment?
As a Jew concerned about the continued existence of my people both here and in Israel, I shudder every time one of these individuals – people I wouldn’t let into my own home – is before the camera either spouting their pseudo-sociological or political BS. It is people like these who tarnish the image of Jews, and it was, no doubt, people like these in Hollywood who got on Mel Gibson’s nerves enough to develop a negative image of Jews. And why, so many years after the fact, is this guy piling on Gibson? I mean enough is enough already, Gibson apologized, cut him some slack, and being a little more forgiving wouldn’t be such a bad idea maybe, huh?

    • bigrobtheactor

I tend to agree except these fellow Yidden have just as much a right to their views as Gibson or you or me do without attaching the baggage of group guilt to them. I personally don’t give a rat’s wet ass what Mel Gibson thinks, says or believes regarding “the Jews” and if I or you or anybody were held accountable for every ugly comment we ever made then we’d all be in trouble, no? So I agree, cut him slack, but cut them slack too.

    • Holy Shirt

For boys raised through the 1950’s in the New York City borough of Queens, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me. Call me this or call me that, but call yourself a dirty rat” was a rite of growing up memorized by nearly every kid on the block. An effective, mature individual response to insults, epithets and other forms of group-hate incitement, it required neither laws nor police intervention to calm incitement to civil war. Socialists and Fascists alike, never learning that lesson, now incite sedition and civil insurrection against Donald John Trump, who learned the lesson so well, his successful Presidential campaign, based upon it, was unacceptable to Thomas Sowell, who is (arguably) the Soul of American Conservatism.

  • solange9

I agree with Malina’s last remark. And those defending the offensive Mel Gibson decided to show it by using this opportunity for their own antisemitic slurs. By doing so, they have shown their own bigotry instead. Oh, and, also, F Mel Gibson and those backing him by using similar phrases.

  • Laura P. Schulman

For the record, there is absolutely nothing in Judaism about forgiveness. Encouraging forgiveness is a Christian idea. The Reform Movement incorporates a lot of Christian thought, in the service of appeasing, well, Christians. Orthodox Judaism does not prescribe “loving one’s enemies” or “turning the other cheek.”

So, no, we don’t have to forgive Mel Gibson for his extremely destructive extravaganza, “The Thrashin’ of the Christ,” that unleashed a wave of anti-Semitic talk and actions.

    • bigrobtheactor

We are the “eye for an eye” people as well and the “love they neighbor as thyself” people not reduceable to simple aphorisms or meaningless platitudes.

      • Daniel Z.

        Thank you.

Further, we aren’t required to forgive but the concept does appear in halakha. Like everything else, the conditions are subject to thousands of years of debate. We certainly never forget though.

        • bigrobtheactor

          Amen.

    • Carolin K.

Thank you for that reminder to fellow Yiddishkeit and lesson to others. Torah does not teach any of that forgive and forget. It is pretty good about dealing with enemies, though.

  • Ed Karesky

The anti Semitic maggots living on the bodies of the neo Nazi, KKK, and white racist nationalist rats that have come out from under the slimy rocks they hid under till Trumpt began his campaign and emboldened them keep spreading their filth and hate.

    • bigrobtheactor

They will lose. Again. Let’s see what the Donald does the next IDF/enemy flareup before making the call. In the meantime he gets the benefit of my doubt with cautious optimism.

    • Ra’anan

Or not. Or really, the scary truth is that Jew-hate is far more pervasive than you want to admit as is your position somewhere in the West & you are scared to death of facing the rude awakening European Jewry faced during WWII, despite all of the facade of Western culture & advancements in every field & that was way before they had your Trump excuse. Ed Karesky, something even more scary is that during WWII some 300 long-bearded, black-cladded, including hats, ORTHODOX RABBIS marched on Washington, DC. President Roosevelt as “Chief” Reform Rabbi Stephen Weiss about them. Stephen said to ignore them & 6,000,000 Jews were murdered. Nonorthodoxy was amazingly comfortable & silent. When liberal Obama & Hillary were in control, & you thought that you were comfortable, & you were DEFINITELY SILENT, they enabled Iran to have nuclear weapons which Iran promised to use against the 6,000,000 Jews of ISRAEL. They also unrelentlessly attempted to push Israel back into the indefensible Auschwitz borders of 1967. During the last Gaza War (Gaza wars occurred only as a result of Israel withdrawing from Gaza for the sake of peace) Obama & Hillary BLOCKED WEAPONS from being shipped to Israel. So you see, Trump didn’t embolded anti-Semities. Au contraire, YOU ELECTED ANTI-SEMITES to the HIGHEST OFFICE in the Land of America when you voted DEMOCRAT in the last 2 elections before Trump began clean up. Maybe you were so enamored by celebrity-endorsements that you never realized the the smooth democrats were actually “slimy…filthy & hate[ful].”
