JNS.org – Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas denied speculation about a new peace plan in the works with Israel at this week’s Arab League Summit in Jordan.
Abbas made his comments in an interview published Wednesday by the Jordanian daily Al Ghad, and senior Palestinian officials, including Ahmad Majdalani and Palestine Liberation Organization Executive Committee Secretary General Saeb Erekat, have concurred.
“As we have in the past, we support the Arab Peace Initiative as a resolution to the conflict,” Majdalani said, the Jerusalem Post reported.
In spite of these comments, Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abul Gheit told Arab media that he maintains a new plan has been presented by the Palestinians.
Abbas’s latest remarks follow his meeting earlier this month in Ramallah with Jason Greenblatt, US President Donald Trump’s special representative for international negotiations, when he expressed that he believes, “under President Trump’s leadership, an historic peace deal is possible.”
