JNS.org – The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) said Thursday it had not found any evidence that government funds granted to a Christian charity had been channeled to the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas.
DFAT reviewed the management of its funding to World Vision in Gaza, after both Australia and Germany suspended funding to the charity due to an Israeli investigation that led to World Vision employee Mohammad El-Halabi being charged for diverting upwards of $50 million to Hamas. DFAT said it will consider “the outcomes of the court case against Mr. El-Halabi and reviews being undertaken by World Vision Australia and World Vision International into this issue” before re-enstating its funding.
Australia is the single largest donor to the charity’s aid efforts in Gaza, and has donated more than $2 million during the past three years.
